LaLa did her best not to be out of sorts, but here she was with Bren at Deano and Caitlin's delivering goodies. Of course, it was Bren who did all the baking. She'd made cookies for breastfeeding mothers. Honestly, LaLa had no idea cookies existed for such people.
If it wasn't for Deano and Caitlin's spur-of-the-moment wedding, LaLa guessed she'd never really know Bren. As it was, Paulie met Mario and an instant friendship began. Oh, he was so happy they'd found another couple to do things with. Paulie knew how she felt about going out with Eddie and Roman. So this was a plus, wasn't it?
And the rest was history. Oh, it was good to know what Mario was doing at the builder's place. He didn't smell anything like Paulie who was always freshly sanitized. Mario was that outdoor smell. He sweated when he worked.
LaLa guessed it was the best of both worlds, but there was Bren who was far different from the people she worked with. She liked to cook when she was home. She was always for the cozy. Lala on the other hand was much more streamlined, but then she'd grown up that way. Having a home meant having a museum. You were not to touch anything unless you were keeping it clean.
Bren was infant-friendly too. She was cuddly with Caitlin's newborn while LaLa was not. She was just here to chat with Caitlin. So the two managed well together. Of course, Bren would go on to her day job at the grocery store while LaLa didn't have much to do of anything.
She did have her job at the hospital but she had lots of days to take off. She just didn't know what to do with them. Possibly, she was bored, but she'd never let on to Caitlin. It was like Caitlin knew a different LaLa and she could be Caitlin's LaLa when she was there. Possibly, a little pouty, but Caitlin expected that. After all, it was all about Caitlin.
"Maybe you do have a personality disorder," Bren said one day while they were out looking for a few things for Caitlin and Deano's baby.
"What?" LaLa squinted back at Bren as if she didn't know what she was talking about.
"Oh, I see how you are, you just act the way other people want you to act," she told her. "You're different around Paulie. Not as talkative as you are with Caitlin. But then when I listen, you seem to only talk about what Caitlin wants to talk about."
It made LaLa's ears hurt just to hear a stranger like Bren sum her up in two minutes. How could she?
"Well, I was raised differently, then you," LaLa practically snarled.
Bren only nodded and picked up the correct size of disposable diapers for the baby along with baby wipes and onesies.
"What I'm saying, you need to find what's going to make you happy," Bren said as they were getting into her car. LaLa was thankful Bren was the driver. After all, she seemed to be the type who did a lot on her own. Maybe that was LaLa's problem.
LaLa felt as if she might have a meltdown. Why did Bren have to be right? Honestly, she had no idea what made her happy.
Hope she gets clarity

I had a relative like that, who didn't want anyone touching anything when they came over. And this kind of reminds me a little of a book I just read- Convenience Store Woman- about a woman who partially changes her behavior or mannerisms to reflect the people she works with. Bren's comments to LaLa about that reminded me of tha a bit...

Bren is very perceptive -- even if LaLa doesn't appreciate her advice. It's never easy to hear criticism, even if it's constructive. Still, it seemed like something that LaLa needed to hear. I'm interested to see where this goes.
