Knot bad at all

Honestly, Eric wasn't sure what was going on with Derrick. He scratched the back of his neck and festered a smile looking at Derrick's array of crochet amigurumi critters on the shelf next to the TV in the livingroom. Honestly, Derrick could go into business. Eric didn't even know Derrick crocheted.

"What's up with this?" He didn't mean to hurt his boyfriend's feelings. But it was like watching another life. One he wasn't aware of and he thought they talked about everything.

"Just something relaxing, that's all." He'd made Eric a scarf, a beanie, and a few owls for Christmas.

Eric gave him a fifty-dollar Amazon card. He had no idea Derrick would order yarn with it. Derrick had his private stash of crochet hooks, too. Not all were kept in the glitter pencil box on Derrick's desk. Usually, there was one in every room in the apartment, even the bathroom.

"You're crocheting in the bathroom?" He'd asked the other day when he was looking through the denim pocket on the wall that held the toothbrushes and toothpaste.

"Of course, not," Derrick winced with a laugh as if Eric was the best with jokes. He said he'd left it there by accident.

Eric smiled back with a shrug. But later shook his head, who was he living with?

"We're OK, right?" Eric asked wondering now it was too late to ask. After all, they were together. They'd been friends forever and now sleeping together. Was he making his boyfriend nervous? Naturally, they had a lot of catching up to do when it came to being a couple. He thought they'd nailed it. Derrick was very kissable and they were always in bed early.

"Well, of course, we are," Derrick's smile was genuine. Eric only sighed as if that was a relief, but still what was up with all the crocheting?

"It's just something to do," Derrick said he'd been crocheting since he was a kid. "You know, waiting for auditions, to dance, that kind of thing. It just took my mind off of it. Now, I just like seeing what I can create." He said he didn't go by patterns. "I don't even know if I could actually read a pattern. I just enjoy the craft of it."

"Oh," Eric nodded as if he had no idea how to even make a crochet chain, and really he didn't even want to. "But maybe you should start selling these things." He picked up the little chick.

"I dunno. I'm not that good." Derrick shook his head as if he just couldn't.

"Oh, you're that good," Eric told him. "We could at least try." It would be something to show Delia and her sister. They would know what to do.

  8. Oh, I love that Derrick crochets! His amigurumi creations are so cute! And it's funny how taken aback Eric is, like he doesn't know Derrick at all. It's an endearing and funny spin on the sometimes magical, sometimes scary getting-to-really-know-you stage in the relationship. I think it's cool that Eric's going to help Derrick sell his wares -- and that he's, ahem, looping Delia and her sister in too! ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿ’—
