'Cause I'm feeling so much older

Tristan's mom remained rather grim after talking to him on the phone. She knew this might happen with Dale/Delia. Trish hated to be a Debbie downer or Mrs. Told You So, but she was certain this would be Tristan's downfall.

She went to put on the kettle and told herself, No it was a promise she'd decided while waiting for the water to boil. She wouldn't say a thing.

Of course, it had been so hard with Liv around. She knew she couldn't say a thing to her either. She just had to let Liv do her own thing.

Trish thought back after Liv was born. She knew immediately the child hated her. Oh, those eyes of Liv's, already telling her how pathetic she was. Liv had the worst cholic too. Took them three months to figure out it was the baby formula. Liv needed a low-iron formula.

Still, Liv was one of those whose determination did withstand her brother. She learned to tie her shoes before he did. And no way was she not going to learn to ride a bike. She could ride circles around Tristan who would prefer to stay in and learn how to play Mario Brothers. The boy had always been lazy, quite a slob too.

Liv was not these things. She was the perfect student. She always had a smile on her face. Obedient. Of course, it was hell to pay when she got home. She was always so angry.

Trish was beginning to feel it start all over again. After Liv quit the coffee shop, Trish told Liv maybe she just needed to relax. Instead of worrying about finding a job.

But she saw a lot of herself in Liv too. Oh, Liv was growing restless. Maybe they'd waited too long for her to come home.

"She's not going to school," Trish couldn't help but mention it to Tristan when she got to the hospital with some homemade chicken salad sandwiches and lemoned tea. She'd brought him brownies too. He looked famished.

"What are you talking about?" Tristan asked between bites of his sandwich.

"Your sister." She fumed, hugging herself tight.

"But, aren't they online, anyway." He squinted.

"Not all of them." She frowned.

Tristan gave her a nod. She knew he wouldn't have any answers either.

"Wasn't she going to go to Paris, last year or so?" He seemed to remember she loved French and she'd signed up for a program, but it was during the pandemic. Maybe this was the time she needed to get into a foreign exchange program.

"Well," Trish shrugged. "Her passport is updated, we even paid the PSA not that long ago."

"So you do want her to travel?"

Trish sighed. Honestly, not really. She knew she'd be worried sick, but she knew she couldn't stop her either.

Tristan rubbed his index finger across his chin in thought.

"I shouldn't have said anything, I know you've got a lot on your mind with Dale." She was straight-lipped. She hated to think the worst. Could Tristan get through something like that?

"No, no, it's fine." He told her. About then, his phone rang and he told her his friend Nic was calling.

  2. It can be so hard sometimes not to say anything. I was nodding when Trish didn't want to say anything but did anyway! Sometimes you jsut can't help it. I do have more insight into Liv now, so thanks! Going to Paris to study abroad might be an interesting angle. Liv needs something. She can be herself?

    Great post

    1. So true. Especially, these days with education since more high schooler are finding they can get free tuition in our state if they are taking college classes. Also since the pandemic many school schedules have changed. Some kid are opting to stay home, even now. While others, they really need the academic environment.

  5. It's very interesting getting Tristan's mom's perspective! I had a chuckle when she referred to him as lazy and a slob, but it made me sad for him too. I want to believe that he can handle this hurdle with Dale despite lacking "determination." Speaking of which, Trish's relationship with Liv seems almost as fraught as the one with Tristan. Maybe Liv should go to Paris after all. It'd give her a fresh start. πŸ’–πŸ‹πŸ«πŸ—
