I would wait forever and ever

 Oh, it was happening. Sammie thought it was all so quaint. Of course, after the ceremony, there was a potluck. It was all rather simple, but the backyard was lit up in the evening with lanterns and flowers and even chairs in the backyard at Rico's.

Her friend Vada wanted to come along. Sammie knew her from the University. They were in art classes together. "I haven't been to a wedding in forever," Vada had said. "Would it be OK, if I tagged along?"

Sammie said SURE before she meant too. Besides, she'd chatted up Rico. It would be great if they could all do things together this Fall. Sammie wasn't sure Gabe would be happy to see Vada around, all the time.

Of course, she didn't ask Rico about the matter. It was kind of a surprise. Naturally, Vada noticed him right away in the pale suit. 

"Is he really in high school?" She winced about it. Sammie knew she wished he was older, but Vada was always telling her how she didn't like any of the guys at the University. 

"It's not a big deal," Sammie told her. "Age shouldn't matter." It wasn't like she was that much older than Rico. Sammie was beginning to think this might have been a bad idea. Of course, Rico was busy being their brother's best man and the crowd was growing. Yes, there would be music, even dancing afterward.

Thankfully, it didn't take long until the ceremony was over. Sammie wasn't even sure Mario knew his lines. She was sure he just made something up. All she could understand during the ceremony was him practically shouting over the cicadas, "I LOVE YOU BREN FOREVER AND EVER."

Sammie was beginning to think maybe Mario wasn't the cool brother she thought he was. Afterward, everyone feasted on a barbecue, thanks to Mario's dad. And finally, Rico met Vada.

Oh, he was one scared puppy. Sammie pulled Vada away. That's when she told Vada about his big breakup. 

"Maybe, it's just not a good time, for you two to meet," Sammie said about the matter. Of course, Vada laughed. She just kept smiling. And before she knew it, Rico was smiling back.

Sammie winced. She hoped this wasn't a bad omen.
