When Tristan came home, he couldn't wait to tell Dale something he'd seen today. Although, he needed to stop and think about what he'd seen at the zoo. He shook his head. He was shocked.
Maybe she wouldn't want to know. But then he didn't know if he wanted Holden to know, just yet either.
Oh, he was stumped. Thinking should he or shouldn't he. Well, he knew he needed to tell Dale, everything.
"Hey, Babe?" He called while digging into the fridge for some cold water. Maybe if he drank the fresh bottle of water, he would come to his senses. Maybe it was just nothing after all. He'd seen Magz today. Of course, he didn't think she'd seen him. At least.
"Babe?" He called again. He thought she was home. Everyone else was at work or in class. Maybe he was just talking to himself.
Maybe it was best just to keep this all to himself.
Tristan made his way to their room. Dale was lying on the bed asleep. Tristan winced. Why was she sleeping now? That girl was always going. What was going on?
She was under the covers too with her clothes on. That was freaky? She was not the type who would crawl into bed like that.
Tristan sat down then and watched her sleep. "Hey, are you OK?"
She barely gave him a shrug. Tristan winced. He felt her forehead. She didn't have a fever. This was so unusual.
Yes, he needed to stop thinking about what he saw. It was none of his business what was going on with Magz. Actually, it was like he'd seen her doppleganger. Maybe that wasn't even her.
He reached for his phone and called Dora.
"I think Dale is sick," he said when she answered. "Does she have anything, that..you know, I don't know about?"
Of course, Dale wasn't exactly waking up.
"Um, no...not that I know of."
"What about her mom?" Dale never said anything about her mom.
"I think she had thyroid problems," Dora told him.
"Was that all?" Tristan winced. Maybe his mother would know.
"Well, it started out that way, she couldn't control it and then.."
"Then what?" He wanted to know.
"I don't know if I should say," Dora told him.
"What is it?" Tristan was growing restless. Dale just wouldn't wake up. Even her teeth were chattering.
"First..first it was the weight, but then came the pain killers and well, she gave up, after a while," Dora told him.
Tristan didn't know what to say. An uneasiness grew from the pit of his stomach. He thought he might have a panic attack. He took Dale in his arms then. He knew they needed to get to the hospital.

Thanks for this amazing chapter
ReplyDeleteOh no I'm worried about her. At first I thought maybe she was just sleeping or playing sleepy lol but teeth chattering- eek. And isn't it always that way- Tristan has a should I or should I not and then there's a bigger crisis!
ReplyDeleteMaybe now isn't the time to tell her about Magz.
ReplyDeleteUy ojala llegue al hospital Me gusto el fragmento. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteOh, no! Poor Dale -- and Tristan! As always, your timing is impeccable. Here Tristan's wondering whether he should tell Dale something disturbing about Magz when tragedy strikes. This will certainly be a test of their young marriage. 😮🤍😮🤍😮🤍
