"What do you want me to do?" Nonnie thought she might pass out. It felt like everything was going in a whirlwind and Rox was right in the middle, showing up with the blonde goth kid.
"Please, can't you do this? Can't you talk to Tristan? It's almost Thanksgiving," Rox pleaded while she knew there was room at Nonnie's since Mona and Hoyt left.
Nonnie sighed. She didn't like being put on the spot. Who did Rox think she was?
"What are you going to do for me?" Nonnie shot back, leaving Rox without a word to say.
"Well..well, I'll go home..home to Pan. And..and I'll get a job." Rox nodded as if she'd already gotten her act together.
"Where?" Nonnie's frown was small as she looked her dearest friend in the eye.
"I'll..I'll work for you," Rox nodded as if that was the least she could do.
Nonnie sighed. "You know, I don't have a say in that." She hugged herself while somebody was making himself at home, bouncing his bottom on the bed in the small vacant room. "What does he do?"
"Oh, he's at the grocery store," she shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal.
Nonnie's mouth clenched.
"He's seventeen." Rox knew.
Nonnie went to get Tristan. She just knew he'd say no. He was studying on his laptop and looked as if he needed a break. Of course, he was in his flannels and tank.
"Rox has got a problem," Nonnie whispered after she shut the door behind her. They were alone. Dale was off making Thanksgiving plans with Dora.
"Oh," he didn't look surprised.
"I know we can't do it. She..she .." Nonnie did her best not to put Rox in a bad light, "She met this teenager when she was..you know.."
"Is he here?" He said he thought he'd heard voices. Casually, he put both of his hands on the top of his head and looked back at his work. He stretched his arms out and yawned. "You know, we don't really have any rules anymore. I got a letter from who used to see this unit in the first place and has turned it over to who lives here now. If he needs a place to stay, why not?" He shrugged.
Nonnie looked at him blankly.
"You're really OK with this?" Nonnie winced.
"We'll see how it goes. If he's not a good fit..then.." Tristan was obviously thinking out loud but then looked at Nonnie. "What's his name?"
"Elvis."
"Elvis," Tristan grinned and choked a laugh. "What's his real name?"
"That's what Rox said." Nonnie sighed as she stood there thinking this couldn't possibly be happening. Tristan finally got up. He said he'd have a talk with Elvis.
"We'll have a real Thanksgiving," Nic promised.
"Um, I'm short on funds," Liv mentioned.
"I can cook at Woo's," he sounded as if it was settled. "His place is bigger."
"But, you're working," Liv said over the phone.
"It's a holiday. They are giving me off two days and the weekend." It wouldn't be a problem. Felicity would come.
It was as if he was certain he was messing up Liv's holiday.
"I'll have to talk to Woo," she said. Of course, Woo took the phone. He said Thanksgiving could be at his place. He even said he and Liv would make pies, pumpkin, and a chocolate cream pie.
Nic smiled. Yeah, he'd like that. "We'll have to make a video and send it to her brother for Thanksgiving."
Nic didn't think he was thinking too far ahead, but he wanted this to be the best Thanksgiving yet. When he got off the phone, Felicity took his hand.
"See, you were worried for nothing," she kissed him before he could return with anything.
Why was she so good at calming everything down. Instead, she filled him up with laughter. Really, everything felt right on schedule. He didn't miss being back in the States. He hoped Tristan was having as much fun as he was.

ReplyDeleteAnd wow she said she'd go back to Pan. that surprised me. This feels like a real conversation, with nonni going to talk to tristan. I'm surprised too that Tristan went with it. He was pretty chill about it.
Seoul is humming along! I think Tristan is NOT having as much fun as them ha lol

Genial fragmento. Bien por Nic. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteOh, Rox and her teenager! Nonnie was so surprisingly tough I found myself thinking, good for her. On the other hand, Tristan was much more understanding, which I liked too. Even though they were at cross purposes, I liked seeing that they'd both grown. And, of course, it's going to be interesting with Elvis in the mix! 💕🎵💕🎵💕🎵
