It felt like one party after another for Ari and Jade. Of course, he wanted to celebrate with friends when they got engaged. That meant Justin was there. Pan wasn't. Jade didn't think much of it. But New Year's came and went. Another celebration with friends.
They also did a New Year's day dinner with Ari's sister and her family. Of course, Mona and Hoyt were there. Jade felt she should reach out to her side of the family, her sister Jewel.
"Sorry, Just can't," her sister said as soon as Jade mentioned it over the phone.
"But..but it's just dinner with you and James," she said it wouldn't be any trouble. "I'm engaged."
"Which, I..I want to celebrate with you, but..but now is not the right time," Jewel said she and James were getting a divorce.
"Getting a divorce!" Jade didn't mean to yell, but this couldn't be happening. Jewel met James back in high school. They'd dated forever. "What happened?"
"There have been little things," she said she was looking for a place to live. They would sell the house.
Jade was devastated to learn the news. "What did he do?" She thought it would be epic. Something horrible.
"We don't like each other, anymore," Jewel said it wasn't that he'd cheated on her, but it took a lot out of them to be home alone together. "He's taking the dog."
Jade guessed it was mutual, yet it stung deep. She'd always thought the best of them with their marriage. They'd both managed to go to the University together. Her sister worked at the hospital. James worked for the city.
Jade hoped that didn't happen to her and Ari.
Oh!! Bad news for starting the year!!!
ReplyDeleteLet's hope
ReplyDeletenew year, new hope.....
ReplyDeleteHope new year brings happiness and brand new hope.
ReplyDeleteSometimes couples just decide to end it.
ReplyDeleteJust because the love ended, it doesn't mean it wasn't there.
I hope it doesn't too. Sometimes that just happens.
ReplyDeleteElton John- those lyrics are so weird!
Uy que mal las cosas se complican. Genial fragmento. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteSomething ends, something begins...
ReplyDeleteDivorce always has consequences, and they can be very hurtful. I hope they will reconsider their decision. I just feel sad for her.
ReplyDeleteEngagements and divorces definitely don't mix! I like (well, maybe like's not the right word), that Jewel and James are splitting not because of some betrayal but because they fell out of love. That's more common than people think. The last line is especially haunting:
ReplyDelete"Jade hoped that didn't happen to her and Ari."
