Take it in stride

Liv wanted to hang up on Tristan who just kept going on and on how their parents had two kids in Foster Care now.

"What could this mean?" He'd said so loud that it made Liv's ears hurt. She closed her eyes and held her cell away from her. Really, this was the last thing she needed.

It was bitter cold there and here too. It felt like they were talking about the same country for a bit. She wanted to tell him how she was doing more than washing the dishes at the Senior Center now. She'd made friends with some of the old women there and she'd even started a step class. Really, it was an energetic bunch and she was pleased to know them. They were helping her learn more Korean phrases. But as of yet, she hadn't been able to tell him.

"Maybe this is what she needs to do," Liv told him. Couldn't they leave it at that? "Why are you so mad?"

"I'm not," he bit back but it sounded like that to her. "I just wanted you to know."

Liv sighed. "Well, thanks a lot bro." She abruptly hung up.

"What happened?" Woo looked alarmed as if he didn't want to see her upset.

"Oh, he's just being Tristan." She went ahead and shut off her phone. "I just couldn't take it anymore. He just doesn't know when to shut up."

There they were in sweaters and sleep pants. All cozy in their room. He'd brought mugs of coffee and she really didn't know what to tell him.

"My mother has moved on," she quietly said.

"Are you upset?" He wanted to know.

"No, I'm glad she's helping someone," Liv nodded as she kept her eyes on the warm cup of foamy coffee. She took a sip. Yes, she missed her mother's hot chocolate. It was heavy with chocolate but she would make an extra milky foam to go on top and somehow that made it splendid. She wished she knew how she did it.

They sat down together then and really she wanted to doze off on the couch with him.

"I should call her," Liv nodded. She'd heard Tristan's version now she needed to hear her mom's.

"How do you think your dad is handling this new situation?" Woo asked.

"I doubt he even knows what's going on. He is always out doing his thing, you know. He's pretty much oblivious." She shrugged. Yes, maybe if anyone really needed to change, it was her father. But she didn't see that happening.

  2. Brother (Tristan) and sister (Liv) having a phone call on a heavy matter - foster care. How could they (parents ) put 2 kids in foster care. Liv hung up. She found solace in Woo's arms. Good for her!

  4. It's horrible when parents don't take care of their kids and just put them in foster care. Still, sometimes it is better than neglectful parents.
These two are having a really difficult conversation.
Liv must be really worried. I understand why she wants to hear another version. Woo seems worried too.
    Life is hard.
    Great chapter.

  6. Ooh back to Liv! This is so realistic, how Tristan annoys her talking but not listening, and she struggles with this. And yeah peope don't change sometimes, it's hard when it's parents. I hope she calls her mom.

Glad you liked the chill mix! I'm listening to it now.

  8. Sometimes the trauma of being put up for adoption is less than the trauma of living with neglectful parents. Their story is so painful

  11. Heartwarmin story dear Ellie!
One can feel sad for how liv is coping with stressful situation and his bro doesn't want to listen what she wants to share to lighten her heart.
I had amazingly strong and loving mom though slightly weak father Ellie and I felt bad whenever I saw mom troubled because of him.
At this part of age what ease my heart was thought that he didn't left us at least and that kept family complete some way.
I think people should think clearly whether they want children or not because making them suffer later is serious sin and crime

  12. Always so much tension between Liv and Tristan! Still, although it was heard for Liv to hear about their mom's new life, I'm glad that it got her thinking that she should call her. It might make them both feel better. I also enjoyed hearing that Liv is getting on so well at the senior center, even doing step aerobics. My mom used to do that at home, and I loved the bright candy colors of the steps. 🍬💜👟🍭💛
