Should have quit this long ago. Can't stand another heartbreak

When Liv's mother heard her daughter's words, she almost collapsed. It didn't seem real. Her baby girl was pregnant.

"And..and it's gonna be a girl, mom."

A lump of emotion struck Pat, to the point she couldn't even speak.

"Mom. Mom..are you there?"

Pat took a big gulp of air there in her kitchen. Yes, her favorite room in the house, not by choice, but it always needed to be tended to.

"Yes."

She could barely speak. Her heart sputtered forward and yet she felt she was going backwards. Of course, once she got her bearings straight she was full of twenty questions. And freaking mad, of course. She couldn't help it. She didn't want to be. But it was part of a mother's duty to go off the deep end.

"Why am I the last to know!" She shouted into her cell. Pat felt faint and yet in a sweat in her loose casual outfit of choice. She looked down at her Crocs, thinking she was not ready for anything in these rubber shoes.

"Mom, please, I don't need this from you," Liv sounded upset. "Maybe..maybe that's why I couldn't tell you. OK?"

Pat could sense Liv's bitterness. Yes, the girl had always wanted to be as far away from her as possible, and Pat still didn't know why.

Pat did her best to be calm. She needed to keep Liv on the phone. She asked if there was anything she needed. Did she find a good doctor? And of course, was she still with the father of her baby?

"Mom, we did get registered," Liv told her.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Pat snapped.

"It means we are legally married."

"That can't be? That is just wrong!" She had a good mind to call someone, but she didn't know who.

"Mom, everything is all right. We are all doing OK," Liv said with ease. "I love you."

"I love you too."

Pat was in a meltdown. She needed to sit and think.

Of course, when her husband  Kim found her, he immediately called Carmen and went to put on a pot of coffee.

  1. There's a unique bond between mother and daughter. So I can understand that Pat felt hurt that she was the last one to know...maybe this is a good time to repair the relationship since Live is going to be a mom soon too.

  4. Yes, that's how mothers are.
Even if it's great news, something still throws mothers off track.
