Here's where he story begins

"Pan? Romantic?"

A cough got caught in Wade's throat just thinking about it. Of course, Wade hadn't meant to bump into Sammie alone at the grocery store. Funny, she was always with that husband of hers. And for her to tell him that Gabe said Pan was the romantic one made him want to laugh.

"Look, you got your toenails done, that's pretty awesome for Valentine's Day," he told her as they kept going in circles looking to see what was on sale.

Sammie gave way a grin but then admitted they both thought she might be coming down with something. She said she felt so tired lately.

"Well, maybe you should take a test or something. I mean-"

"A test?" She drew a blank as if she couldn't even guess.

"Oh, I'm sure ..they even have those pregnancy tests at Dollar Tree, but there's a nurse here, you could just go and find out for sure, that way."

"But, but I haven't thrown up once. I don't feel-"

"You feel tired. You feel like your sleepwalking..you should at least check it out," he shrugged. After all, he was her brother-in-law. So they managed to meander over to the health clinic next to the pharmacy. There was only a nurse on call in the big box grocery store.

Wade never knew much about this side of the store. He and Pan would run in for the essentials and then get out of there. It was best to grocery shop that way, as otherwise, they would end up with too much. He was sure Pan could live on peanut butter, bacon, and bread.

While Sammie went in to see the nurse, he looked at Men's Health magazine. There was an article about dementia, and it said that the more educated you were, the less likely you were to have it. Another part said you shouldn't drink, but then you should drink, too. It was totally confusing. And then there was that factor of everybody living longer and you would get it eventually.

Sammie was rather coy when she came out of the exam room. She had a piece of paper with her.

"So?" Wade smiled waiting for her to reply.

"So...you were right." She smiled brightly.

"Really?" Suddenly, it felt to him like everybody was having babies.
