Before the last storm came, Ari and Jade had Simone and Hoyt over for dinner. It felt like spring then and they shared the news that Simone would have a baby in October. Of course, Jade gushed over Simone with the news.
It took Ari by surprise. He didn't think she would get that excited. Of course, it looked to Ari that Hoyt was already growing a pot belly. That made Ari a little nervous.
"Does that really happen?" He asked Jade a couple of nights later when they were sitting in the dark when the blizzard hit with strong winds. The snow wasn't even falling then. They were cuddled up on the couch hoping the TV might come back on. They were saving their phone batteries.
"What are you talking about?" She knew but she was just teasing. "You think men get pregnant too?"
"Hahaha," he sighed. He wasn't exactly looking forward to going to Holden and Dora's. Jade said he needed to hold a baby. Of course, this had led to a game of, "No, you're the one who needs to hold the baby." He didn't want to get into that one again.
He really didn't want to count on his fingers how many people were pregnant now.
"You know, what I mean," Ari winced as he hugged her close. Could he be just like Hoyt? When Jade gets pregnant? He didn't want to get fat.
"I know they are happy. I know Hoyt is different than when he was with Mona." Ari went on to say.
"Mona?"
Need Jade to say more?
"Mona can be really nice," Ari nodded.
"When? Tell me when she's been nice?" Jade looked at him as if she thought they were on the same page about his so-called niece who was more like a little sister to him.
"Well," he wasn't sure he could think of a time. "You know her. You know how she is. She's just Mona."
"She doesn't call anymore."
Jade rested her chin on his shoulder. Oh so close and oh so kissable. So he did. Maybe they were thinking about too much at a time like this with the power off.
"I think something must be working with Mona and Rico."
Ari shrugged. He bet they weren't sitting on the couch during a blackout talking. Although, he was comfortable here. It was warm. They were together. She kissed him with a giggle.
Still, the wind raged on, and he could hear noises in the wind. It was strange, but not that strange.
He kissed her, thinking the power didn't have to come back on. They would be just fine. It was almost spring.
"When's the last time we did it on the couch?" He asked.
"Never." Jade reminded him they got this couch on clearance at Nebraska Furniture Mart. "Remember how you always wanted a leather couch?"
"I know." Ari gritted.
Ari guessed they'd make a run for the bedroom because they needed to respect the couch. Of course, he had to stump his toe on the ottoman and almost fell on the floor, but there was always Jade to the rescue. And her touch always made him smile.
Now Ari would wish more power off nights like this :-)
