Liv had done as Woo asked. She stayed home while he picked up her parents at the airport. Of course, he had Sunny and Louie to come along and help. They could take her parents' friend to the train station since he was going to the countryside.
It felt like such an ordeal, but once she saw her mom and dad at her place, she laughed into tears. It almost took her breath away. Honestly, she didn't think she would miss them so much. But then maybe being pregnant made her so emotional. But she knew it was a hug from her mother that she'd been waiting for.
Of course, her mom wanted to do the cooking.
"But I made food, Mom."
Couldn't her mom be still for a moment? Oh, she could see herself in her mother and she knew they were both hyper, but strong.
"OK."
Liv could hear the sound in her mother's voice that she wanted to do something.
"You just got here. You've been on a plane forever, and I'm sure the traffic was bad."
"It wasn't that bad," Woo shook his head, no. He chatted with her dad for some time. Her Dad talked about growing up in Shanghai when he was little. He said it was his first time to Seoul.
"Well, we'll have to show you around," Woo had smiled.
"I don't really have to go anywhere," Liv's dad smiled back.
Yeah, that was her Dad. Now, if they started talking about animals, her dad would check out the zoo or cattle. Before she knew it, her dad said he wanted to go to a Korean steakhouse.
Finally, she got them set down to some chili.
"I used your recipes," Liv said as she was serving her mom.
Her mom took a spoonful of chili without even adding rice. Quickly, she informed Liv it wasn't her recipe. "Where's the heat?"
"We have to have it mild because, well..um, we've both been getting heartburn," was Woo's pleasant reply as he put his hand over his heart and his other arm around Liv, hugging her close.
Liv sat down to eat her salad. She was eating light lately. Of course, she could see how her mother wouldn't even look at Woo.
Liv tried her best not to think that her mother didn't like Woo. While her father liked everybody. Yes, she needed to be more like her father. Still, she knew they were here for the baby and hopefully all would be well.
Hope the parents wouldn't stay too long, otherwise there would be lots of conflicts. Just listening to the mother....smh...woo is very protective.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly

ReplyDeleteI hope everything goes well. Parental visits are sometimes complicated to manage
ReplyDeleteThe mother seems a bit complicated. I hope things improve between them soon.
ReplyDeleteImagino o que Liv sentiu grávida e abraçando a mãe.
ReplyDeleteBeijos e boa semana! :-)
parents lead to unhappiness, especially for new couples.....
ReplyDeletelove to read the story....
Even as grown ups, we might feel like we really need our parents.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we just need them. You described this feeling of your character so well. This need for parental comfort.
I can imagine that your character is extra emotional because she's pregnant...but also it's a very human need.
It's normal to be emotional, especially when pregnant.
Lovely chapter!

ReplyDeleteWspaniałe. Dobrze mi się to czyta. Nie lubię jak rodzice się wtrącają do młodych, szczególnie mamusie są trudne. Znam to z doświadczenia. Mam trudna teściową. Mam nadzieję że się ułoży w ich związku. Fantastyczna opowieść. Wciągnęłam się. Gratuluję autorom.
ReplyDeletePozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski.
Wonderful. I enjoy reading it. I don't like it when parents interfere with young people, especially moms are difficult. I know it from experience. I have a difficult mother-in-law. I hope it will work out in their relationship. Fantastic story. I got hooked. Congratulations to the authors.
