Every now and then I get a little bit tired

Sammy wanted to tell Gabe not to be butthead when they went to see his mother and Cam, but she knew it wouldn't do any good. Besides, she had her own battles lately, being pregnant. She couldn't find anything that didn't make her feel it was binding her. She had not found the perfect bra and she wasn't one to show off her baby bump.

Oh, she's seen the pics and the styles of how she was supposed to be, wearing his jeans and a tight tank. It just wasn't going to happen. Maybe she had an old soul after all.

"You look great," Gabe would say every time she passed the bathroom mirror. He didn't notice she was showing at all.

She wanted to ask him if he was in denial, or something, but that would have done no good either. But it was nice to sleep through the three-day weekend. She was still in a big yawn fest, and then Siouxie and Cam invited them to dinner. Honestly, it felt divine to Sammy. They could have given her soup and a sandwich, and she would have been fine with that, but of course, it was smoked ribs.

Way too greasy for her taste. She watched Gabe dive in and drink beer as if she had never let him have it. Sammy feasted on cold salads and cucumbers along with lots of iced water to keep hydrated. This meant she went to the bathroom a lot and smelled like iron.

"Are you really doing OK?" Siouxie asked if she needed anything.

"We're good, really we are."

Sammy smiled, but she was already feeling drained. She thought her ankles were swelling, but Gabe told her they looked OK to him. She wasn't sure if he just didn't want her to notice or it was his way of telling her she could keep on going. Yes, life was like that, wondering if the glass was half full or half empty.  But in the end, she asked if she was the liar. Was it really all good?

"And how are  you..and..and Cam?" Sammy asked as she was helping clean up and the guys were looking at something in Cam's garage.

"Oh, I should go back home, I'm not really worried about Gabe's father, anymore," she sighed. "But I seem to sleep through the night here. I hadn't done that in a long time."

Sammy nodded, not even wondering what that exactly meant.

"I'm just Cam's roommate," she laughed. "It's nice to have coffee with someone in the morning. And we like cooking supper together."

"Good," Sammy smiled.

"We should really go shopping," Siouxie smiled and patted Sammy on the back. "Like get our toenails done."

Sammy chuckled. She thought for sure Siouxie wanted her to find some real maternity clothes, but these days most were online.

  1. Witaj Ellie. Piękny refleksyjny rozdział. Ciąża to wyjątkowy stan chociaż czasem nasze ciało się buntuje. Jakoś to trzeba przeżyć do porodu. Zakupów w ciąży nie lubiłam nawet takich po ciuchy. Przeszkadzaly mi różne zapachy w galerii. Ściskam najmocniej ♥️

  2. This was such a heartfelt and honest piece. I really felt Sammy’s quiet exhaustion, her internal questions, and the subtle shifts in her relationship with Gabe.

The dialogue was natural and warm—Siouxie added a comforting presence. Loved the emotional layers tucked into everyday moments. Beautifully written and relatable.

Keep up the good work my friend

    1. Thanks so much. Oh, when I look back on those days..I feel I wasn't very confident, not like some I knew who were warriors from day one. Still, it was a whirlwind. 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
