489. Coming up with good ideas

Chewy and Chai waited until Woo and Liv were home before they dropped in. They brought food and diapers. Of course, Daisy was a distraction for everyone there. Naturally, Liv's mother took a liking to Daisy, who was curious about the infant in the bassinette.

"You know, you were once just like that," Trish said to her. Daisy looked at her with big eyes and nodded.

"Yes, if only you slept that good now," Chewy chuckled.

"She was what they call the wakeful baby," Chai shrugged. "It might have been my fault. I was always making sure she was breathing. I guess. Maybe it was all my fault."

"Sounds awful," that's when she told him about her older son. "He did keep me awake a lot, too. He loved The Tonight Show. I could just put him in front of the TV, and he would go to sleep in his infant seat. He liked the baby swing, too."

Of course, Woo and Liv didn't have a baby swing. They didn't want one.

Trish kept watching the baby sleep. She kept saying Oliver didn't look like anyone in their family.

"Did Woo get out any of his baby pictures?" Chewy then asked.

"Oh, I looked at those, I don't think he looks a thing like Woo," she told them.

Chewy sighed as if he had given up on this conversation. He'd just go pour some wine for himself and Trish. Maybe that was just what they needed. Chai wouldn't drink; he stayed with Daisy, who had brought a few of her favorite things to keep her busy, which were a doll and a stuffed animal. Lately, she liked to invent stories with these two.

Liv came out of the bedroom and took Oliver back with her. Woo was out with Liv's dad to pick up some things from the grocery store.

"You know, how it is," Chewy said to Trish who followed him to the kitchen. "Babies look like our grandparents when they are born, that last for maybe a week and then they start to grow, a lot."

"I never heard that," Trish looked sad about that revelation. "We'll have to go back soon. I wish they were coming back with us."

He gave her the glass of wine. He was certain he should shut up now. It was time to bring out the snacks, and he bet he could find them. Even if this wasn't his kitchen. On second thought, he'd go with whatever Trish would want to make.

  1. This was such a charming and relatable scene. The family dynamics, the new baby, and Daisy's playful presence made for a delightful read.

  5. It's even a little strange that each of us was once a baby and had our whole lives ahead of us. I always enjoy following the fates of the heroes of your stories. Have a nice week. 🤗
