"It's a Dirty Shirley."
Jade's smile was enticing. Naturally, she was already enjoying the cocktail at the beach bar.
"Shirley Temples are for girls," Ari simply replied as he sat back being from afar from the beach. After all, he was drained from the trip, but of course, Jade was going strong. It was near their last days here, and they'd finally found an out-of-the-way place that wasn't hopping with tourists, but with the looks of things, once it was sundown, the lime lights would be on, and he was certain he'd lose his phone that might end up in China.
"It's got vodka in it," she said he should try it.
"Oh, it's your favorite drink, I couldn't."
Naturally, she called the waiter to bring another. He sat back in the big wicker chair as if he would not be enticed, but soon enough, he was when it tasted more like a Cherry Lemonade from Sonic with a kick.
"OK, you might be right," he confessed after having most of it drunk in five minutes. "It might be the summer drink."
She laughed, so casual in her bikini top and cutoffs. Her tan was divine, but then, that might have been her natural color tone. Although working inside most days had whitewashed her a bit. He was no better. Ari might as well have been a vampire taking everyone's blood at the hospital. If only he could enjoy a vacation like Jade.
She ordered fried pickles as well as some fried mushrooms. It would be dinner. They couldn't splurge too much on a meal. Most meals, they shared together to cut the cost. It made Ari sulk a little. Would their life always be this way? Jade didn't seem to mind. She was good at finding freebies, like finding the free coffee and donuts at breakfast. She had a stash of protein bars in her purse. Truly, they were a good team.
It was just the idea that he might not be the best team player, but by the time he finished another Dirty Shirley, he was ready for them to get back to the hotel and make something happen.
Curious situation.
