First Romance

 

So is it everything you thought it would be?

MONICA: I feel the rush (she smiles), but maybe Randy knows best. So, you know, it's been more of a friendship than anything.

RANDY: The thing is, chemistry can be so misleading.

MONICA: What's science got to do with this? (She looks at him as if she doesn't know what he's talking about.)

RANDY: Honestly, I thought I would be, you know, going solo. I know how I felt with Cassie, and I thought that was my first love, but then again, it wasn't actually a romance. (he winces) And I've thought about it. I guess (he almost laughs as he looks at Monica, holding her hand as they sit on the interview couch), I didn't think anyone would really like me the way Monica does. It's hard to live up to her expectations. And as many times as I've tried to push her away, because I didn't think I was good enough..well, (he licks the bottom of his bottom lip) I see I need to give her a chance.

MONICA: It's just, he wants to take it slow. (She looks at the interview as if it's madness to her).

RANDY: I'm what they call a late bloomer. (he nods) But I've started college. And she still has her senior year.

MONICA: But I'm taking a couple of classes at the university too.

RANDY: But you wouldn't have, if I weren't there. (He looks at her as if maybe he has been a good influence). We've got a long way to go.

MONICA: Yeah, we're taking it real slow.
