Chewy guessed it was Jun's last hope, seeing his grandmother, so maybe Rennie would change her mind about coming. Of course, Chewy wasn't certain if Jun was perhaps superstitious or just desperate.
When they arrived, his grandmother was asleep in her room in her big recliner that would help her up. Apparently, she was a renegade in a walker, which led to her falling. Even then, Jun didn't want to stay.
But Chewy was with him, and it wasn't long until she awoke and saw Jun before he could leave.
Of course, she didn't know who he was. She assumed he might be a nurse. He told her who he was, and her bony fingers motioned for him to come closer.
"I need to see if it's really you."
Chewy thought it was perfectly harmless, but as soon as Jun bent down toward her, she grabbed him by the ear and yanked hard. She had him right where she wanted him. And she told him how she didn't like how he was avoiding her.
"It's not like that," Jun grimaced once she let go. He put his hand over his ear in pain. "I've been busy."
"I don't believe you." Her stern look was so different than what Chewy had recalled when he was here with Daisy.
"It's true," he yelped, looking back at Chewy to stand up for him.
Chewy told her he had a job at the coffee shop. He told her he was living with Chewy's friends. "Chai and I live just down the hall. We see him every day."
She informed Jun that he must visit her every Sunday afternoon. She said they would talk then.
Jun gave her a restless smile. She wanted a hug, and he did his best to let her. Unfortunately, Jun really wasn't a hugger.
Chewy sighed. He wondered how Jun would be around Rennie.
