Cut to the brain, this ain't no game

Randy knew that look from Justin, and he wasn't sure how to explain this one. What could he say? He knew Monica was gonna be bad from the start, but no one ever believed him. And then after a while, he kind of forgot about it when they became something like friends.

Randy stayed out all night with Monica on Halloween.

"What happened?" Justin was gruff. Randy imagined he knew. He had to because he was the one who called her parents.

"You know I don't have any sense of direction." Randy felt calm about it now. Possibly, he wasn't that cool when her car landed in the river and his phone died, and hers was somewhere with the fishes. It might make a good premise for a slasher film, but it was a slow go, and the night was cold, with no one coming to get them.

Their clothes got wet, and they were miles from town. "

"You see, she was driving and we'd gone to that place that everyone said was scary." When Randy thought back on it, it was just the price that was scary. But they managed a hay ride and went down a slide that almost made him throw up. The maze in the cornfield was frightful. He was so glad when they headed home.

But then, out of nowhere, some bright lights forced them off the thin highway, and Monica lost control of the car. And that's when they ended up in the river. They spent the rest of the night holding on to each other as they walked back to the city.

"What do you mean, bright lights?" Justin winced as if Randy was making this up.

"I'm not making it up, just ask her."

Couldn't Justin be happy he made it home, thought Randy. "It felt like an alien spaceship or something, but I know it wasn't. Probably some farm kids on a tractor having fun."

Randy scratched the back of his head, thinking it was going to be sad seeing that car of hers. It would be a mess. But he had a feeling he wouldn't have had any better luck than she did on that road on Halloween.

  1. When you're scared together, it's somehow more fun.
