no such luck

Kyle mentioned to Caitlin he had COVID while things were idle at the coffee shop. She was still hanging around to train the new guy since Kyle hadn't been there all that long. She was getting ready for her internship at the Children's Institute.

"How long ago?" Caitlin asked. "Are you OK?'

"It was a month or so ago." He said he stayed home with it. His roommate ended up with a blood clot in his lung and had to have blood thinners. "Thought, I'd never get my sense of smell or taste back."

"I'm glad you're OK," she asked if he'd moved into her room yet.

"I didn't have much. It's nice," he smiled.

She asked what he thought of Megan.

"I guess she's OK. She's really quiet."

"Huh." Caitlin couldn't imagine that was possible. "She hasn't asked for your phone number?" He shook his head, no.

About then, Roman showed up. Caitlin felt a little sad. Two new guys at the coffee shop. No more Dylan who hadn't been around in weeks. She guessed he was a real electrician now. He hadn't talked to her in ages. Of course, she'd meant to meet up with Megan to get the details on Tori, but she had so much to do to get ready for this horrible internship. She hadn't thought about what was really going on with Dylan and Tori. She knew she'd definitely have to talk to Deano about it. Sooner or later.

Roman's smile was broad. He looked trendy enough, caramel and his sun-lit afro made him good-looking enough for eye-candy. Maybe he didn't have to do a thing. She knew he would be nice to people and that was half the battle. Caitlin hated playing nice, but she was around Deano now and well she felt herself becoming a little like him. She knew she would need to if she got this internship out of the way.

  2. Very interesting to see how the new character is fitting into the group slowly. It's like in real life, there are always people going away, drifting or leaving and new people coming in the picture.

  7. COVID strikes again. The part about Kyle's roommate's blood clot is scary. There's a lot going on for Caitlin here too, not the least of which is her internship. Also, I think it's nice that she reflects that Deano's influence is making her nicer.

  8. I love your story. It's a captivating, sweet, heart-warming tale with a dash of mystery and suspense about what makes a real friendship.
