True blue

 "What do you mean?" Kyle looked at Hope as if she couldn't be serious. He'd waited forever for her at the coffee shop. They had the corner booth in the back. No one they knew would find them here at this late hour. 

"It's happening," she nodded as if he was only someone she vaguely knew. "I'm supposed to look at a place tomorrow."

"Well, I'm going with you." He looked her straight in the eye. No way could he let her go alone. It could be a scary place.

"No, you're not." Her eyes were seriously big as if he had no right, but he caught both of her hands in his and he looked at her as if she needed to rethink this.

"It would give me peace of mind. Are you trying to drive me crazy?" He told her she had no idea what she was getting into, a low-income place. But she said it was brand new and there was a play area for kids and lots of nice families would be there, even young soldiers and their families.

He sighed. "It's just..it's just I won't know." He knew that sounded ridiculous. He knew they were officially nothing. Just a secret evidently. "I have to be with you."

"You don't have to do anything." She was being tough. Straightlipped. Possibly angry.

"You are the worst actor ever," he didn't believe her, but let go and kept his hands to himself. He'd hold out until she crumbled. He looked away while she finally sipped her warm tea. She coughed then and he noticed she was crying. 

Kyle got up and moved to her side of the booth and put his arm around her.

"If I move in, just think we could-"

She shook her head, no, but the look in her eyes said yes. Kyle bit the bottom corner of his lip before he could laugh. Oh, they were in this together. Her head leaned against his shoulder. All was quiet. But he knew he was the one.
