Megan could see the wedding was coming together. Mario was here and he was building something on the rooftop. She hadn't expected that. Suddenly, she felt giddy, but then realized she hadn't asked anyone to be her bride's maid.
"Don't worry too much," Bren said. She was over with Mario who was checking about the electricity and if the space would be safe. "You've got lots of friends to choose from."
Megan knew of colleagues and teachers and of course, there was Caitlin. She knew she couldn't leave her out. "Why don't you be a bride's maid?"
"Me?" Bren laughed.
"You know, it's rather unconventional." Megan shrugged as if she hoped this all worked out.
"Of course, I'll do it." Bren nodded.
"After all, your boyfriend is doing all the work up there." Megan went to get a drink for Bren in the fridge.
"It sounds weird when ..when you say boyfriend," Bren's smile was open.
"I know you're not a teenager anymore," Megan handed her over the bottled lemonade. "Besides, I'm beginning to feel ancient."
"Well, you don't look it," Bren said as they went to sit on the couch.
"I guess I'm old enough to be married now," Megan nodded. Although, it felt as if this was all a bit of a whirlwind. "Really, I wasn't in any hurry, but when Gramps went up there and said it was the perfect garden spot, Meme tells him not until our granddaughter is married. And she meant on the roof."
"You let your grandparents decide where you'd get married?" Bren laughed.
"Yeah, kind of did," Megan said with a shrug. "Cori kept thinking it could happen in the dining area at Mel's. But Meme kept saying how smelly it would be."
Oh, how her grandmother liked to plan. She was the one who drew up the design for Mario. It looked like the wedding was really going to happen.
Great text, loved it!

DeleteI'm very excited to read about Megan's wedding. Yes, she does have friends to choose from when it comes to bridesmaids. Megan is always so considerate of others, I'm sure her friends will be happy for her wedding. Her granny helping with it sounds like a plan too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it will be now!

ReplyDeleteI almost forgot that Megan and Cori are getting married! This was such a lovely post. Realistic, too. When you've been together as long as Megan and Cori have, making it official isn't so much about pomp and circumstance as it is about growing up. But then, maybe I'm projecting because the husband and I lived together for five years before we tied the knot. Anyway, I think it's sweet that Megan asked Bren to be her bridesmaid and that she let her grandmom pick the venue. Nothing of the Bridezilla about her!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I enjoyed reading more of your thoughts on Cyrus's podcast interview with Alex. You say it best here: "I'm sure being a teen, you are full of angst but then wanting to be sweet too." That is so true! It's such a conflicting time.
