Oh, it's the Fourth ❤️💙❤️

 

It was going to be fine. All fine. They would see. Nic assumed it. What could go wrong?

"So we have a new roommate," he didn't know why he said we to Mona. It wasn't like she lived with him, exactly. Yes, she was lazy and could spend plenty of time here, but she didn't even know when the roommate moved in. "He's really quiet," Nic added and of course, Mona was as indifferent as she ever was

He winced, wondering if she really did like him. Half the time, she was telling him what to do when there was no reason for it, but he was content. Evidently. 

She still hadn't found a job so he'd made it a priority, "You should have a job if you're going to live here." Meanwhile, he found another roommate. About then a girl named Cat showed up.

Of course, Mona didn't like her at all. Mona said she was just looking for trouble. She hated the way she dressed. "Her hair is just awful. Are you sure she's not-"

"What?" Nic was stumped. Cat was hardly here a minute to see the room. He had no idea what Mona might be getting at. He flashed Cat's resume in front of her. She had plenty of folks backing her. She'd been in England all this time studying mouth music.

"What does that mean?" Mona gave him a scowl.

"Something very serious." Nic was impressed. She worked in the University music department.

Of course, Mona gave him the cold shoulder after that but warmed up when he said they were going to the rooftop at Cori's for a cookout and to watch the fireworks. It was the Fourth after all.

Tristan could hear what he thought might be a spat, but he didn't come out. He did not want to know what was going on. He was staying in. In fact, he hoped to sleep the whole day. Only, it hadn't happened. Pesky Jade kept texting with the stupidest text.

JADE: What are you doing?

TRISTAN: What do you think I'm doing?

It went on like that for a good hour or more and his stomach was rumbling and he was alone now so he decided to make himself something to eat. But it didn't pan out very well. It looked more like scrambled eggs with cheese instead of an omelet. He ate right out of the skillet.

JADE: What are you doing now?

Tristan only sighed and looked at his phone and shot back.

TRISTAN: I'm eating, what are you doing?

JADE: I just got out of the shower.

TRISTAN: Thanks for the reminder. [That's what he would do as soon as he finished up the eggs and toast. He needed a shower].

He squinted at the text. Seriously, Jade was hard to read. Just a tease, he thought. Of course, as he sat there with egg and cheese in his mouth, suddenly he remembered Mona, wondering what she was doing right now.

God, how he hated her. He did. 

But it made him cry that she'd hurt him this way. All he could think now was that he hoped she was unlucky in love, but he didn't want her dead just as unhappy as he was.
