from one turn to the next

"Oh, fuck," Caitlin said to herself thinking this would be a very good time to get off Facebook. The new guy she friended wasn't the guy in her old middle school class after all.

She gritted hard and exited Facebook on her laptop and looked to see Cori was washing more of his clothes at the washing machine next to the kitchen.

She shook her head and winced. He was the shaggy sort, but if he cleaned up? She tilted her head, thinking he might make a rather attractive girl. She shook the thought and tried to put in a little exercise move as if she was being physical after all, but a burp caught her off guard. Caitlin made a face of disgust. Maybe she should give up beer for a while.

She jumped to her feet and went to see if she could help Cori. Really, she didn't know that much about him, but he wasn't one to talk about himself.

Sure he talked. Asking where the light bulbs were and how long had that mattress been in his room.

She went to take a look at his bare room. Still no sheets on his bed. She would fix that.

"Really, I dunno about the mattress," she shrugged. Wasn't like she tried out every bed in the flat. Just the couch and her bed.

It was a regular size bed and Cori said he was used to a bunk bed.

"Oh really?" She looked at him wondering if he'd been born in an orphanage, but he helped her with the sky blue sheets. It wasn't long until the bed was made. If only she could ploop face down and call it a night, but she was a night owl, after all.

Of course, he said nothing more. He didn't say a word about who he'd lived with.

"Thanks," he nodded as he looked at her slight masterpiece of neatness. He crossed his arms as if he didn't need anything, but then he said, "Oh..." Just as she was leaving.

"My..my manager friend might stop by," Cori told Caitlin.

She looked at the clock on his desk. It was almost ten p.m.

"Tonight?" She looked at him as if she didn't want a party right now.

"The..the thing is, he looks an awful lot like Harry Styles," Cori shrugged.

"What?" She winced not sure who he was talking about, but she faintly remembered he was in a pop boyband.

"You'll see," he sighed. "His name is Melvin."

"I'm not into pop bands," she told him. "I like the Stones." Of course, she couldn't think of the name of any of their songs.

"Classic," He scratched the back of his neck and she thought he might need a haircut, but then again it was naturally wavey, only it hid his dark eyes. She watched his plush lips move.

Caitlin pressed her lips tight trying to imagine the last time she kissed anyone. She sighed then and dropped her hand to the back of her neck and turned to march right out of his room.

This was just too soon she thought. She didn't want to meet anybody new. Not even Cori. Just then there was a knock from the front door.
