the lodown

 When Cori awoke he was under the covers with Megan who was sleeping soundly. He couldn't help but smile. As he laid back on his pillow he needed to rewind and figure out how it all started. But he wasn't sure he could recall everything. Especially, the fact neither was wearing anything at the moment.

1. He thought he knew where she was going with this margarita challenge. She'd tell him a story and then he'd tell her a story. Or something like that. But she got so emotional once she started talking about her grandmother that even he was crying. "Why, why couldn't I have just let it go, about your mother being a lesbian? Why?" Megan didn't know her mother, but this was what her grandmother told her, and Megan told it well in an overdramatic fashion. Her mother left Megan with her grandparents and never came back. Cori knew he had nothing to compare to that. But after all the sobbing was done and a new drink made and more drinking began again, Megan asked him all sorts of questions about Tess, and honestly, he didn't have any answers for her. "I dunno, if..if I should say she's my real ex-girlfriend. I mean, I don't ever really remember going out with her, but she always showed up at the worst time." That's when he told Megan about his brother's party where he thought he was about to meet the most perfect Monica, but somehow Tess poured a drink all over him, and now Monica was with his brother and they were going to have a baby next year. But he was sure it all started in middle school when Tess got mad at him for outscoring her in the drums for band. She'd hated him ever since.

2. Megan said Tess was abusive and she didn't like her at all. Her words started to slur a little. Maybe Cori's words slurred too. By then most of the triple sec was gone and they started drinking shots and licking limes and salt on their forearms. It was like Megan was on to something. As if she had a special ability of some kind by the way she talked with such confidence it made Cori confident too. "I'll kick her ass if she ever shows up again," Megan informed him. Cori believed her too because she showed him her martial arts stance. Of course, by then she'd taken off her sweatshirt and she was only in her gray sports bra and baby blue bikinis. Naturally, he laughed at her and he thought she might beat him up.

Then the wildest thing happened. There was Tess dressed like a Ninja, but like some Chinese divine power Megan took her down as if it was something she did every day. And Tess vanished. 

3. They laughed so hard as if they'd really accomplished something during their drinking game which had no rules nor merits. They jumped and danced on Megan's bed as if this was the most exhilarating night to behold. Cori couldn't remember a more epic moment.

Evidently, other stuff happened too. That was a blur. He didn't remember much. Still, he couldn't believe he'd said what he said to Megan early on. About being the best she'd ever have. Maybe it was out of spite. He wasn't sure. But it didn't really matter. 

Still, he was sure she'd scream when she woke up. If so, he'd scream too, but Megan didn't. Instead, she smiled and she kissed him as if maybe she remembered a whole lot more than he did.
