Not quite old times

 Megan showed up alone on the pink Vespa. True, it was possibly too cold to be out on one, but it was her new toy.

Two hours ago Garth showed up which was unexpected. He was the last person she expected in town, but then he told her he'd been here the last six months he just hadn't felt like showing up. This felt mutual. She didn't feel like seeing him either, but he brought the scooter.

"I promised I'd get you one," he shrugged as if he never gave up on a promise.

"But..but you didn't have to," she felt a little numb seeing him after all this time, yet it hurt not to think of him as family. He sort of was. Her heart ached a little when she saw him, but it was good too. She didn't really feel anything else. And he was happy to see her. There was a time when he dreaded to see her.

Garth said things were good. He was working at Mutual of Omaha.

"What did you do? Win the lottery." She smirked when they went downstairs to check out the scooter.

"As if," Garth shrugged back. He was no different from before, and she wondered if he thought she'd changed. 

"You still have your license?" He asked. She nodded on the way down in the elevator.

"You remember what I taught you?" Garth reminded her she needed to take it easy on the road. He didn't want her to get hurt.

"I am just as good or better of a driver than you are," she looked at him blankly.

"Sure, if you say so," Garth then asked what she'd been up to. 

"Oh, I get by," she hugged herself as if she didn't want to be too close.

"Are you seeing anyone?"

Megan only nodded.

Garth placed his hand on the top of her head and messed with her hair ever so childish. "Oh, Meggie, you're too cute for your own good."

It wasn't long until they parted. Garth didn't say if he'd keep in touch. She didn't think he would. Besides, she wanted to get to know her pink scooter. No more having to ride behind someone. She was the one in control now. Hopefully, Cori wouldn't mind being the passenger. There was a black helmet in the back compartment waiting for him.
