And here we go

Megan hoped she was over the worst of it, but it wasn't so. She was sick in the hotel bathroom again. They hadn't gone on the rides at the amusement park like they'd planned.

"Oh, I've messed up the whole thing," She winced wanting to get rid of the bitter taste in her mouth. And yet, she was starving. She rummaged through the leftover breakfast and stuffed her face with biscuits.

"I think you need to get checked out," Cori watched and cringed ever so slightly.

"It couldn't be COVID, it just couldn't be." Megan finished off the cold coffee too. Cori made a face of disgust. Lord knows how long it had set there. He was certain she'd be sick of god knows what.

"Well, at least it's not Monkey Pox," he shrugged. He mentioned the news segment he'd watched while she was in the bathroom with diarrhea and throwing up.

After she ate as if she might be a starved wolf, she slipped off her slippers and buried herself in bed. She was in her gray tank and pajama pants that matched his. She looked so tired. He went to push her hair away from her forehead, and then put the palm of his hand on her sweaty forehead. He said she didn't have a temp.

"But, maybe you need to at least take one test," He got something out of the drugstore bag then.

"What?" She almost rose from the pillow but laid back down with a yawn. "It wouldn't be that." She was closed-mouth about it.

"Why can't you tell me?" Cori wanted to know. He'd been patient. She just wouldn't talk about what happened when she was with Garth. He'd never brought it up because he didn't want her to think he was jealous. He'd always hoped she would tell him, but she never did.

He knew it was painful. He could see it in her eyes, even now.

"I lost an ovary," Megan said it as if it wasn't a big deal, but he knew it was. "I'm not pregnant." she hugged herself.

Cori guessed he was wrong, but he held up the box. "You could just..you know..humor me." He tried to smile, but she looked at him as if it was the worst joke possible.

"Look, if we do go to the emergency room, they'd make you take one, anyway." He turned from her and studied the box.

Megan closed her eyes. The tears emerged. "Oh, I wanted this honeymoon so bad." She sighed. "We're finally alone and now I would have to be sick." She sounded as if nothing ever turned out right for her.

"It's OK, Babe." He promised as he watched her put her forearm over her eyes. "I love you no matter where we are."

She cleared her throat and pulled her forearm away. She snatched the box from him. "OK, I'll do it."

  1. Yes, you can be pregnant with one ovary; so doing a test seems the smart thing to do...as well as a Covid test. Cold coffee, that would make me sick all over again.

  6. Oh, poor Megan and Cori! They so deserved this honeymoon, and now this. But then again, as Cori said, at least Megan doesn't haven monkey pox. Pregnancy was my first thought too, but then when Megan revealed that she had only one ovary, I was thrown. Still, it would be interesting if she's expecting a child with Cora already in the picture. Never a dull moment in this stories, Ellie!

Thanks so much for putting my peace sign necklace in the collage. I love how it looks next to those wild sandals. :)

That sucks about your Midwest ShopKo closing. Everyone needs a place to pick up a 4th of July tee (especially one with kittens!) and a waffle maker. I was so disappointed when our local JCPenney closed; my Mom and I used to go almost every Sunday. I guess it was like our church, LOL.

  7. Heartwarming paragraph. The descriptions are so vivid, the feelings are so tender. Poor Megan, I hope she gets better soon.
