In limbo

 Levi felt he was losing touch. When he found out Mario had COVID, he wished they were still roommates.

"I'm fine. I'm actually over it," Mario told him that maybe they could all get together, but maybe they should wait. Mario had called him as if to check in with him. He said he wondered how his summer was going.

"All of us?" Levi sounded shocked. Of course, he'd forgotten Mario's girlfriend's name.

"You are still with Carly aren't you?" Mario asked.

"Yes." Levi found himself saying. Though, she was not fond of Cat. Who was possibly more than a co-worker? "Um, have..have you met Cat yet?"

"Cat?" Mario sounded as if Levi was talking about an animal.

"She is a person and she moved in where I used to live. You know, when I lived with you." Suddenly, he felt as if he were talking to a child, but he felt he had a lot of explaining to do. "We..we go way back. I knew her my freshman year at the Uni."

"I see."

"Well, she needed a place to stay when she came back to the states. She..she has a terrible mother. It's like her mother wants her to get married..and she keeps finding all these guys from her church...it's just..well, she doesn't want to get married." Levi sighed hoping Mario understood this, because evidently, Carly didn't. She was giving him a bit of the silent treatment this summer. Or maybe it was the fact they just didn't go anywhere. 

"Does she need anything?" Mario sounded as if he would help out if need be.

"Oh no, I..I see her from time to time," he said.

"I see."

Levi winced. He didn't think he really liked her, but they were friends. Really good friends. She usually texted him every day. While she was away, they phone chatted from time to time. If only that had been enough.

But now Carly was in the picture. And..

Now he found himself pacing about. He was with Carly now. Not that he'd been totally unfaithful. But then maybe he was. Just to Cat instead of Carly. Seriously, he didn't see himself as the bad guy. He was Cat's friend. They were only friends. Yet, maybe he wasn't being honest with himself after all.
