"I think it's best if we just leave him alone," were her mother's very words when she finally called to talk to Liv about Tristan.
It was as if a rock of emotion lodged in Liv's throat. Why was her mother like this? Would she ever be on her side?
"Let's try not to cause him any more trouble."
"Trouble?" Liv wanted to scream in the phone, but she only sighed. This was the story of her life. Don't make things worse. Maybe this was why she couldn't live at home. She was not the star they worshiped. She was nothing. It was what it was.
"You just have to let him be," her mother told her.
"When have I not let him be?" Liv wanted to know. "I haven't asked for any of this."
"I know. It's just.." Now her mother sighed in thought. "I don't want you to get hurt. I don't want anything bad to happen to you." She then said she'd talked to people where he'd been and how well he was doing now on his own.
"He just needs to be on his own," her mother told her.
"I know." Yet Liv felt this meant she had to be on her own too, even if it might not quite be true, staying with Rico and his dad.
"Do you have shoes?" Her mother wanted to know.
"Shoes?" Liv winced as if her mother was being ridiculous.
"For school. It'll be back to school before you know it."
"I'm fine," Liv said. Everything was fine. Why did her mom have to worry about what kind of shoes she wore. As it was, she never called.
Very interesting lines!

Poor Liv. We all want to feel like we can tell our moms anything, but what to do when the thing that needs talking about is her other kid? This part really goes there: "It was as if a rock of emotion lodged in Liv's throat. Why was her mother like this? Would she ever be on her side?" And then Liv's mom asking if she needs school shoes, it's this small gesture, but all she has to give. I'm glad that Liv has Rico and his dad. No need for her to be on her own just yet!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for including my florals in the collage! I love how they're peeking over Liv's head. 🌸
And of course, thanks for your comments. I know what you mean about Pinterest house pics vs. real houses, although I'm guilty of the Pinterest thing too. Let's just say I'm not posting pics of the three-day-old dishes in my kitchen sink! On that note, I hope you get around to finding your bras.
Why do I feel that when someone says- I'm fine, they might not be fine? Is it just me? Or do often say I'm fine even when we're not?
