the reckless games that we play

"I heard Liv's brother was looking for Jade," Pan said between mouthfuls of lime-flavored greek yogurt. Neither Jade nor Ari quite liked it. Of course, Ari winced at Pan. After all, the yogurt cups were past their expiration date too. But Pan did love his free food.

Ari couldn't help but yelp back, "What?"

It was just the two of them at Pan and Roxanne's. Pan was in the middle of washing dishes that took up the whole kitchen area. Ari grabbed a dish towel to help dry those in the drainer. It was the least he could do.

"Thanks, bro," Pan just nodded about him helping out his situation. Rox was making up hours at work or maybe at the library. Pan just couldn't stop himself from consuming the cups of protein. Evidently, they had nothing to eat. Still, Pan didn't give Ari any answers about Liv's brother.

"Are you talking about Tristan?" Ari wanted to coax him more, but Pan was famished, evidently.

"Don't forget to save some for Rox," Ari glared at him. Pan shrugged back and put the last few cups of yogurt for Roxanne in the fridge.

"Look, I shouldn't have said anything, but Liv kept talking about him long after he left," Pan told Ari. "Don't worry, he didn't even see Jade."

Ari was straight-lipped. He didn't want to be nervous about this. "What did he want from Jade?"

"Who knows," Pan shrugged back. "They'd just been friends over the summer. Did she ever mention him?"

"Not really." Ari went to work drying more dishes and putting them away. He felt he was reorganizing the cupboards as he went along. They were totally empty and Pan didn't stop him as he tossed the empty yogurt cups in the trash and went back to washing dishes. "I know who he is," Ari finally said. "Mona used to date him and I never liked him. There was always drama."

Suddenly, he was worried there might be drama between him and Jade over Tristan. Ari nursed his bottom lip. Everything was going so well with Jade. How could he keep her from Tristan? It wasn't like he could ask her how good he (Ari) was in bed. Ari was certain that would be a real turn-off.

"When we were there she didn't say a word about him. Instead, she just crawled into bed and went to sleep. She didn't ask anyone to leave. What did you two do?" Pan looked over at him as he did his best to hold in a laugh. He flicked some suds at Ari's face. Ari laughed back. He so wanted to fling some suds back at Pan. Still there was a lot of kitchen cleanup to do before Roxann got home.

  4. Hmm, look at Ari, getting right to the heart of the matter! I have to give him credit for discussing the Tristan issue with Pan and for being so mature about it: "How could he keep her from Tristan? It wasn't like he could ask her how good he (Ari) was in bed. Ari was certain that would be a real turn-off." Still, I wonder what Jade will think . . . 💖💔
