"I have a brother," there wasn't that enough? Gabe didn't want to tell Sammie anymore than he had to about himself. She'd been asking more about him, like his family and such. He told her he was boring. He didn't have much of anything. Except you, he'd wanted to write, but he didn't want her to think he was strange.
"What's his name?" Sammie texted right back.
"Why?" He didn't think she would look for him.
"I dunno. It would be just nice to know." She shot back. Oh, he wanted to say none of it was nice. None that he could remember. What if she knew he was old. Too old for her. He'd always looked young. Somehow, he felt his whole life had been stunted. Yet, he felt he'd wake up one day as an old man with nothing, but they still thought of him as a youngster back home. Maybe things were just slower in Rapids. He winced. What was he getting at? Finally, he told her.
"His name is Peter."
"Like Peter Pan?"
"Don't even go there," Gabe sighed. "I'm just glad I'm Gabe and he got stuck with Pete. My mother was obsessed with Peter Gabriel."
"Who's that?" Sammie wanted to know.
"Some god-awful musician," Gabe decided. OK, his mom was god awful for leaving him with his Dad but Sammie didn't need to know that. If only she knew, all the lady friends of his Dad's that he'd had to put up with all these years. He wished he hadn't thought about it.
"I'll have to look him up," she then said.
"Don't do that," He didn't want to talk about this. No, they needed each other. More than a text. Yes, getting physical made him forget things. And he really didn't want to be conscious of all the bad times. "I'm saving my money." He told her he wanted to find his own place. "Wouldn't that be great? A place for you and me."
"Yeah, that would be great." Sammie's text just didn't do it for him. He needed to call. He needed to hear it in her voice.

But it's also pretty informative! Because now we know that Pan is Gabe's brother. That revelation aside, things are progressing with Sammie and Gabe. It's almost painful how careful Gabe is not to reveal too much. Falling in love is always a gamble. 💗💟💌💘
