"I wish you could come back," Delia said to Dora about working at the yoga and dance studio. "Derrick's so worried. Are you really OK?"
"Of course, I'm OK." Dora was however straight lipped. Delia didn't see her old roommate as that happy.
Delia cradled her cup of tea. Here it was a hot day and they were indoors sipping tea with a few treats Delia had brought.
"It's..it's been crazy, you know," Delia hated to crack a smile, but every day was practically an adventure living with Tristan.
"Crazy?" Dora looked at her as if she was being silly.
"Hoyt moved in," Delia told her.
"Hoyt?" Oh, she knew she hit a nerve when she said his name. Dora couldn't stand him. "How did that happen?" Dora didn't look her self at all now. No color in her hair. She looked a bit washed out to Delia, but she wouldn't mention it.
"He's helping out with Mona." Delia shrugged. Of course, Dora didn't know her.
"It doesn't sound fun," Dora finally admitted she hated that she'd given up the apartment. "I..I just felt I had to, or..you know, he might think I would up and leave him."
"What?" Delia squinted. She didn't know Holden could be that demanding. "He told you to give up the apartment?" She hadn't meant to shout but Dora shushed her.
"It's not like he said it, but I knew he would be furious with me if I didn't," Dora confessed.
"How could you just up and leave everything..for him?" Delia grimaced.
"I'm in love with him," she said as she looked at her half cup of tepid tea. "He needs me. I know he does. And..well, sometimes, you have to make sacrifices."
Delia nodded. Personally, she felt as if she was the one who made the sacrifice.
Sometimes we do everything for love...But we should never put the desires of others before our own, because we end up becoming bitter if we always give in for our partner.
ReplyDeleteLove is not always fair.
ReplyDeleteAh the other side of the conversation. :) Dora doesn't look herself and clearly didn't want to give up the apt. I don't have a read on Holden yet but sounds like he can be problematic.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great new week ,
Me da pena Delia. Genial fragmento. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteOMG I need to read the rest of this!
ReplyDeleteGreat post 😊
ReplyDeleteDora gave up her appartment to please Holden. I don't think he"ll appreciate her gesture of sacrifice. Love must not be one-sided.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of sacrifices in life
ReplyDeleteSad story, loves hurts many times
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing

Hum... Não sei se este tipo de gostar é amor.
ReplyDeleteAs vezes a gente fica cega quando se apaixona.
Beijos! 💛
Oh, now I'm worried about Dora! I'm so glad she's talking to Delia; opening up is always the first step out of a bad situation.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comments about Summer Reading. And I can totally see how you would need someone to read you Pride and Prejudice. In college, I wrote a paper about it saying that the language "sticks in your throat". Also, that it was just a romance novel without the sex. My prof wasn't a fan . . .
Finally, thanks for including my yellow SHEIN shirt in the collage! The "bear with me" really fits here, and I love how it looks with the cupcake.💛🧁🧸
