"Oh, lord." That about summed it up. Bea festered a frown at Andie's arrival, but she was bringing gifts. It was so unlike her. Seriously, Bea didn't think they had a friendship anymore since Bea moved on from the hospital.
Of course, the boys were out playing basketball. Frankie really did spend a lot of time with Drew. They were tight and it pleased Bea that she could fill her days with summer getting ready for the baby who would be here by early August. She knew the exact date. Nothing was going to wavier her happiness, not even Andie.
"I just wanted you to be the first to know," Andie was all smiles.
"Know what?" Had she become a doctor or something, thought Bea. Maybe she was moving away.
"I met someone." She just couldn't stop smiling.
Bea only smiled.
"Well, I guess I'm happy for you." Bea went to get the cold sugar-free lemonade from the fridge. She knew Andie always came to eat. But this time, she had brought the food which was fresh strawberries, brie and an assortment of crackers.
Of course, Bea felt sad that Teegan and Andie didn't work out, but Teegan went back to her people in South Dakota and had a very good job on the Reservation. If all went well, Teegan would start medical school in the fall. At least they kept in touch. Bea debated to text her about Andie's new love.
"Have you learned anything after your last relationship?" Bea couldn't help but pick through the strawberries. Oh, the good ones were on top while they were a bit mushy at the bottom. Bea didn't think the girl knew how to grocery shop.
"Why are you like this?" Andie was serious now. Bea looked up at her blankly.
"Cause, you got a lot to learn sis." Bea washed off the fruit and bit into a strawberry. It made her squint as she savored the sourness.
"No, I don't." Andie always stood her ground.
"Yeah, you do." Bea nodded. "It wouldn't hurt for you to be a little more grateful."
Andie sighed. "Well, Abs isn't like the others," Andie informed her with a shrug.
"Abs?" Bea looked at her wondering what kind of name was that? "So is she man enough for you, Andie?" Bea guessed she shouldn't have said it, but then maybe Andie wasn't manning up either these days.
"I don't like that word." Andie was even lip.
"I knew you wouldn't," Bea smirked, hoping she might make Andie mad and she would just leave without a word. That was usually the way it went. Bea took to the cheese and crackers. She thanked Andie for thinking of her. "So, just what does this Abs, do?"
"She's a college student."
Bea nodded.
"It was love at first sight," Andie bubbled up with happiness.
"I bet it was," Bea smiled back.
Bea seems a little tough on Andie, but it also sounds like there's a history there and maybe she has reason? She keeps in touch with Andie's ex too, Interesting.
