Sammie did have to confess, "It's not easy with a newborn."
Yes, she adored Blossom, but the infant did have her tummy troubles and there was so much to do with so many in the nursery now. Even taking care of Meme was enough. Sammie wasn't sure what she should and shouldn't say to Megan.
"What do you mean?" Megan looked in shock. What could be going wrong?
"Well," Sammie gritted a smile. She knew Deano talked her up to be some kind of miracle worker. But she did have her work cut out for her. "I know it seems simple, but each one has their needs and.." She shrugged. Maybe she was asking for too much. There went Blossom crying again. She grabbed the contraption to put the baby closer to her. It was one way to tend to the others and keep her attention on Blossom too.
"Right," Megan agreed with her, thinking there was a lot going on in the room, especially with a newborn, toddlers, and of course Cora who thought she was old enough to help.
"It's not that I'm quitting," Sammie assured her. She pressed her lips with a wince. "It's just, I..I signed up for an art class or two, and I don't know if..if I can handle all this and the classes too." Yes, she was exhausted. This was the last thing she expected. This was supposed to be a fun summer. She was with Gabe now, who was doing more of the cooking and cleaning at home than she was.
She guessed she didn't deserve a brake. She could hear her mother now, "You asked for it. What were you expecting?" Of course, she had not spoken to her. It was best to leave well enough alone. When they talked it usually ended badly and she didn't need that right now.
Megan nodded then as if they would get some help. Of course, she had her own work to get to, even if she worked from home.
"How's Meme really doing?" Megan came closer to ask. It was a whisper. Sammie looked over Megan's shoulder, Meme was reading to Cora.
"Good." Sammie grinned, but to be honest she was a little scared of the old woman. Really, she didn't work with old people that much. But she did her best to keep pleasant and sometimes, Meme was full of life but she thought she was tired too. "Maybe she's overdoing it, you know," Sammie said in a normal voice. She knew Meme couldn't hear her. Of course, Megan looked at her as if she needed to speak quietly.
"Have you had her hearing checked?" Sammie wanted to know.
Megan looked at her blankly as if she hadn't thought of that.
