at the end of the rainbow

Pan's work was completely exhausting. So much to memorize with this job. He just didn't know how lucky he'd been even if the pay hadn't been all that great. Now he was at the police department and he never knew who might show up. It was a bit crazy at times and then the lull would hit him and he could sleep with his eyes open.

He sipped at the Nitro Pepsi hoping it would give him strength, but he still had to shake himself awake.

At least, Caitlin hadn't bothered him about the move. Perhaps she'd completely forgotten about him. There was a time he thought they were going to play Mod Squad or some cop show he vaguely knew. Oh, that woman, why was she even in social services?

Not that he thought that much about her, other than being this big sister who constantly wanted to keep him in line. It was like he wasn't doing enough, but he wondered if she was even doing enough.

He shrugged at the thought and looked at the photo of Rox at his desk. Yes, he was still playing it cool with her. It felt like they were actually just roommates, but sometimes...

He took a deep breath. Pan knew they were more than that. It was just kind of weird now. All she wanted was her own room. Pan guessed he understood it. What else was he going to do? Of course, he didn't have long to think about what he should be doing about the matter, some undercover cop showed up.

Pan didn't know him. But still, he thought he might know him. He couldn't help but stare at him, waiting to see if the guy needed a box of evidence or something.

"You're new here, aren't you?" The fellow looked him over as if he didn't think Pan was that trustworthy.

Pan nodded, he held up his ID to the guy who wasn't much older than him. The guy wasn't very expressive. He did the same. It was then Pan saw the name. Wade Bennett.

Pan didn't mean to squint, but wasn't he the guy Caitlin was waiting for some information on. Pan cleared his throat. He wasn't trans. Just some skinny dude who looked as if he could be one for the team or be undercover as a high school student.

"Glad you're not the old dude," Wade smiled.

"Me too," Pan agreed. "But really, all this can make you pretty old." He grinned.

"Well, you asked for it," Wade smirked. This was true.

"Well, my girlfriend was sick of being in a studio," he confessed.

"Is it possible to ever make a girlfriend happy?" Wade nodded sitting there on the edge of Pan's desk.

Pan gave him an even smile. This was crazy, he thought. Was Caitlin's enemy wanting to be his friend?

  4. This made me laugh:

"Oh, that woman, why was she even in social services?"

Oh, Caitlin indeed! But the real headline, of course, is Wade! And how he and Pan are already bonding. Very, very interesting . . . πŸ€”πŸš“πŸ€”πŸš“
