"Well, she's not in jail," Wade said the moment he met Elvis at the door.
"Not in jail?" Elvis looked at him as if wasn't sure what Wade meant. Wade stopped by to see Elvis after work. He was of course in a different gear where he just needed to say his peace and go.
"You heard me, you didn't think she'd actually go, did you?" Wade zoomed in on Elvis' face as if he might detect something he should have before, but he knew the kid would be the last to know of his mother's whereabouts.
"Where do you think she is?" Elvis shrugged.
"Mexico, maybe the Philippines," Wade said as he looked around the apartment, seeing if Rox was there, but she wasn't.
"Why would my mom be there?" Elvis kept following Wade about, then asked if he would like a Pepsi.
"No, it has caffeine," Wade would stir away from having any kind of fun even if he was off duty. Of course, Elvis yawned about then and got himself a soda.
"You're sure?" Elvis handed him over the Fanta as if he knew what Wade liked to drink and he found another. "Just when did you find out?"
"Earlier today, I did look for her." He took a sip of the fizzy drink. Finally, they found the kitchen table to sit. The rest of the roomies weren't off from work.
"That was sweet of you," Elvis nodded. "But I didn't expect you to."
It was then Elvis told him he got on at the mailroom at the university.
"They still have those?" Wade winced as if his half-brother had a lot to learn.
"Evidently," Elvis sighed. "How's everything else going?"
"It's going." Honestly, Wade was rather mute on the subject. Naturally, Elvis said Eade worked too hard and needed a hobby.
"It's too damn cold to think much of anything," Wade sighed.
"And your twin is still missing," Elvis said out of the blue. Wade just winced, why did Elvis have to bring him up?

ReplyDeleteBom dia e um excelente sábado com muitas alegrias.
Beijinhos, paz e luz.
I was wondering about the twin too. And where did Mom go? I wonder if we'll find out. I'm starting t ocome around on Elvis...
ReplyDeleteFanta!
I didn't know about Diaries on Diaryland. I hear you though, places come and go, or wax and wane in usage. We just have to keep writing! I do like my audience too and love the instant feedback and camaraderie.
It's amazing Diaryland is still around. It isn't quite what it used to be. Although, I did have a lot of fun creating a few characters' voices there. Although, I'm pretty sure they aren't around anymore to see. Since I have lost getting into Diaryland..which I guess it is best to leave it behind. Since those were all in first person.
DeletePobre Wade. Genial fragmento. Te mando un beso.

ReplyDeleteShe's probably relaxing there by the sea sharing a little beach towel. 😁
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting news about Elvis's mother. If she's not in jail, then she can pop up anywhere! Then, of course, Elvis picks up the gauntlet my mentioning Wade's twin. Lots of intrigue here -- and possibilities!
ReplyDeleteThis probably sounds silly, but I enjoyed reading about soda! I didn't drink it much before I got pregnant, just at the odd restaurant outing, but now I really miss it. After this little nugget comes out, I'm getting a root beer float. 😏🥤🍦
