One Way or Another

Vada didn't mean to be wicked, but there were places to be this summer at the University. Oh, always some sort of fundraising for the art department.

"And you can be my date," Vada was happy to say to Rico. Thank god, he quit at the Skating Rink. For a while there, she thought he might inherit the place as much time as he spent there under the disco ball being the main attraction and the keeper of shiny wheels.

Naturally, she was fond of dressing him up. While Sammie did her part in making Vada's fashion shine, Vada did the same for Rico. Although, she spent more money to make him look great for the part.

"But he's not a doll," Sammie didn't see it that way.

"He's Ken Enough for me," Vada found plenty of thrifted suits for all the summer occasions. All that was needed was for Sammie to spruce them up.

But that didn't last long since Gabe informed Vada that Sammie was doing too much. "She has her art projects, you know."

Still, it was a bit of a dance, keeping Rico at her place and trying to do things the best way she could while waiting for a real apartment.  Even so, it was nice captivating Rico who couldn't stay in a sad mood forever.

"I've got connections," she promised about the University. "I'll find you something."

Unfortunately, it turned out to be afternoons of setting up chairs and tables and sometimes, even after midnight he would have to be there to take it all down. It wasn't exactly cozy, but she was working on it.

No way was she going to cross Justin's path. She wondered if he was sad about her as Rico was so heartbroken over Carmen. She doubted it. He was not that big of a romantic. Just a good-looking ogre with a silly look on his face.
