Only on the 4th

It was liberating, getting rid of all of Hart's stuff. The room was Sunny's and they decided fresh paint was in order. It wasn't a terrible green, more of a light moss.

"You know, green is your color," Louie said about the matter.

"But it's kind of blue, I'm much more blue than you know."

She loved watching him smile. He really was a little silly, and she couldn't help to respond. Yes, she was smiling too.

"Oh, you look so different," he told her later when they had a late lunch at a fast food place. No way, did they want to stay in on such a beautiful day.

"I do?" Sunny bit into a fry, imagining they might be in America and what they might do to celebrate the 4th.

"I think they eat hotdogs," he told her he'd seen some of the races on TV.

"Really?" She was full of laughter. It was fun eating a cheeseburger and having a chocolate shake. Oh, to dream of being somewhere else instead of here.

"What else do they do?"

"Fireworks," even his nose crinkled a little when he smiled. Oh, it felt like summer finally arrived. And she felt at ease, possibly bubbling with laughter.

Tristan decided he'd grill at his parents. Of course, Kenny was being watchful as if to make sure he didn't burn down the house.

"I know what I'm doing," he said even if he sprayed on too much lighter fluid. It had been ages since he'd grilled. If only Nic was here, the fourth would be perfect, but Eric and Derrick arrived and they brought Eddie and Roman. Of course, it was all Bren's doing. She'd made so much potato salad, or perhaps she supervised while her dad and Mario put it together. A pot of pinto beans was in the slow cooker. His mom did make a couple of pound cakes too.

Tristan reached for his phone and snapped a shot of his dad drinking a lite-beer with Bren's dad.

"Damn it, I should have taken one of him and Mom," he said under his breath. He yelled for his mom who was still in the kitchen. Of course, she yelled back.

"Come here!" He clarified

"Why?" She finally came out to the backyard.

"Cause I need a good picture of you and Dad together to send to Liv."

Tristan smiled big before he spilled what was really on his mind. "Liv might think you two are splitting up."

He knew neither of his parents liked surprises on the fourth. Tristan held up his phone as his hair blew with the hot wind. "We better make a video," he told them. Still, he didn't know if either of them had an award-winning performance in them, but he was certain Liv knew that too.

  11. I love how she feels at ease with Sunny...and how they laugh together about the little things, thinking about how the Fourth Of July is celebrated in the States and all. You described well their feeling of ease with one another!
    Lovely chapter.
