School's out Forever

 

It finally occurred to Ali that she didn't have to worry about high school. Perhaps she was just a late bloomer. Of course, she wasn't part of Sammie's wedding either, even though she and Diago attended. After all, he was Gabe's cousin. 

Really, after graduation, it had been a blur. She knew everyone was ready for the University, except her.

"Well, you've got time," Diago, her boyfriend, shrugged about the matter.

"Yeah, I know, but shouldn't I know what to do by now?" Maybe it was me all along, Ali thought long and hard every night when she wanted sleep. She couldn't decide forever who she wanted to be and now that that was kind of a given. She had to admit, it was like living a fantasy. And she sensed that most with Cleo around. God knows, did THEY need help.

"We've got summer!" It was as if Diago could read her mind as his fingers intertwined with hers. "Let's go to Adventureland!"

That was where Sammie and Gabe went on their honeymoon. It was true, perhaps they did like to follow the herd when it came to trends. 

Ali could hardly wait to get away from the pizzeria. 

"Don't tell Cleo," Diago whispered in Ali's ear, who only smiled. Of course, they were at work when they decided about this summer trip. They would only be there for the day, yet it felt like driving a day to get there and back.

"What's going on?" Cleo was always curious when  Diago and Ali got together.

"Nothing," they said in unison, looking at her as if she was just too suspicious.

"Going on a honeymoon I bet, without a wedding," Cleo assumed.

"Um, maybe." Ali looked at Cleo straight-lipped as if to give nothing away. "What about you? Any plans this summer?"

"Oh, I get enough of Gregory at home, why would I want to take him anywhere," Cleo shrugged.

"Gregory?" Now Ali was curious and so was Diago. It was as if they had been in search of another couple to go out with.
