Oh, she's a Holiday

Sammie wasn't sure what to make of Gabe's mother. Their conversation in the kitchen when they were alone at Cam's Christmas left her speechless.

Yes, things had gone splendid when his mother went out with Cam (who at the moment was the only father figure in Sammie's life). Although, Gabe didn't say much about it, yet his twin brother Pan was so happy. And Sammie wished to be happy too. Only Gabe was in a funk of some kind.

They'd talked about it earlier while at home on Christmas morning. Of course, he didn't say much then either. She knew he was sad. He was in no mood to eat and especially, didn't want to open presents, but she understood. She knew he was not in a Christmas mood. Still, she felt as if a lodge of emotion was caught in her throat and she thought she might be coming down with something. She wanted to be there for Gabe. Yet, Christmas was beginning to feel miserable.

Then when his mother mentioned that she hoped Sammie would have a baby in 2025, Sammie thought she might faint. "Oh, I had this funny dream," Annie had laughed. "I was so thrilled when I found out you were pregnant. It was like the best Christmas gift ever."

Sammie tried to smile, although she felt like crying. That was the last thing Gabe had on his mind. She wasn't sure why he was so depressed. After all, they were married now, but he seemed happier when his mother wasn't around.

Sammie listened to her say that she'd do everything she could to help them. Sammie nodded, hoping not to let the tears slip, but after they hugged Sammie couldn't help but to cry alone.

Before she knew it, there was pregnant Caitlin in the kitchen doorway after Gabe's mother went back to the party. "What's wrong with you?"

It was like a bad omen. Sammie said it was nothing.

"Wait until you're in my shoes," Caitlin was being moody. She mentioned her lower back hurt.

"Maybe..maybe it's labor pains," Sammie said right away.

"I think I'd know," Caitlin was indifferent with her hand on her lower back. She did look as if she was ready to pop in her tight sweater. Deano was off with the little one.

Sammie thought she should find Deano, but of course Caitlin had other things on her mind.

"You know, that brother-in-law of yours is married to a killer," she sounded a little drunk.

Sammie looked at her surprised. That's when a huge labor pain kicked in and Caitlin squirmed as if it were killing her, but a few seconds later she said she was fine. Sammie knew it was time to get Caitlin to the hospital.
