Deano tried his best not to be worried. On one hand, Caitlin seemed rather oblivious she was even pregnant these days. Oh, they had good days and bad day, perhaps. Just when he thought she might be over this obsession with who killed Melvin, it would come back like a vengeance.
They'd gone round and round with many arguments, but he'd done his best to not let it be heated ones. Especially, for little Hannah's sake.
1. Was Caitlin still in love with a ghost.
2. Had she wished she'd stayed with Melvin?
Naturally, this was all yesterday's history of their past. Deano came around long after it was over with Melvin. Deano and Caitlin fit like pieces to a puzzle from the get-go. They'd been so happy. Evidently, Caitlin came to her senses.
He smiled thinking of the time he told her she should just quit her job at human services and get her detective license. She said she would, but then she didn't. She did like having a steady paycheck. After all, she was in a job she'd gotten a degree in, and he knew deep down she had a passion to help people.
They'd had some good times in December. Taking Hannah out to see the lights and the Christmas in all the museums. It felt so delightful, but then at Christmas, she'd woke up angry. It was strange. He should have known the baby was coming, but she said no. Always, being arrogant and swearing she depended on him too much.
"Well, she's that way with you too," he said to Sammie who had taken Hannah from him earlier, but was back at the hospital with his and Caitlin's daughter. "I want to say, I don't think she means it, but..but I guess she does."
He didn't want Sammie to think there was a chance that her half-sibling was perfectly nice. "But I love her, and she's just showing no one else would."
"But, but she was going on about something, Pan and Wade," Sammie was serious even if Hannah was balancing on top of Sammie's boots. "Is there something about Wade?"
Deano sighed. "You know, Wade says he has a twin brother. A twin brother he can't find."
Sammie nodded, but looked as if she didn't know anything about it.
"Maybe Caitlin found him, but isn't sure he's who she thinks he is," Deano sighed. "She cares a lot about her friend, an old roommate. I even think Tori has let it go by now."
A part of Deano felt bad that he wasn't carrying the torch like Caitlin. He didn't know what he could do to ease Caitlin now.
"I wish she could be a mother like I know you'll be," he told Sammie, "but Caitlin in Caitlin." A bit of him felt his heart shake. Just then a nurse told him it wouldn't be long until she had the baby boy. He was so big, he might break his collarbone if he was a vaginal birth. They were going to take him by C-section.
Love this chapter dear. Wish you a nice Sunday!!!

DeleteHope the mother and baby are all okay!
ReplyDeleteQuestions, questions...sometimes it is hard to know whether we're still in love with somebody. Not everyone wants to admit to being in love.
ReplyDeleteBabies coming into this world often makes life happier...but also more complicated. Births always carry risks. C-sections carry risks as well, but sometimes due to other complications, they are a wiser option.
Lovely chapter.
Happy 2025!
