676. Bonding with someone you never expected to

"Oh, that virus sounds horrific," Sunny grimaced when Liv spoke of her brother Tristan while she was over with some leftovers of the meatloaf that was Liv's recipe (which was actually something her mother used to make when she was a child). Lately, Liv just couldn't get a recipe together. It was as if she misremembered, especially doctor appointments, but she was always diligent at work. Perhaps, it was all exhausting and she needed rest.

"I guess, it's not as bad as I made it sound," Liv looked out of sorts. Yes, she was really beginning to show and looked as if she should take it easy. "I guess all these kids have it at the school he was, you know..teaching."

By the looks of it, Sunny imagined Liv couldn't see her brother as a teacher. Sunny couldn't help but smile.

"So, he's all right now?" Sunny asked as she put away the food. She'd made mashed potatoes and a green bean casserole. Actually, she was enjoying these American foods. She didn't think she would, but she had help from Chewy.

Liv nodded. She said she'd heard from her mother. Evidently, they talked to each other everyday on Facebook.

"Oh." Sunny could see they were getting closer even if her Uncle Woo (Liv's husband) said they weren't. She guessed she should reach out to her own mother, but it  wasn't  often they spoke. Only during the holidays. She was only taking her mother's cue. After all, Woo had been here for her all along and it had never made her sad. She knew her mother worked hard for them. Still, she imagined like Liv she was only getting one side of the story, not the full deal.

"I guess I should let Nic know about Tristan," Liv shrugged as she went to make coffee. It was decaff.

"What? He doesn't know?" Sunny cracked a smile. Nic always seemed to be a big brother to Liv.

"Oh, he's worried about a wedding."

"A wedding?"

"I used to think he was always in search of making a family," Liv said ever so somber as she sat the steaming coffee in front of Sunny. "But now that I know him, I think he's a lone wolf and maybe he doesn't want to be tied down."

"Sounds like Chewy," Sunny told her he was always at Chai's these days. "I just never thought one little girl would have him wrapped around her little finger."

"Oh, he must be in love with Chai." Liv decided. Sunny hoped she was right, but she'd been wrong about a lot of things before.

  1. Sometimes we're wrong, sometimes we are right. Only time can tell.
    This is a lovely chapter.
I like the conversation between Sunny and Liv. This dialogue sounds natural.
