Randy was happy that everyone else was happy for him about the job at Goodwill. Still, it was a lot to take in. And he knew he could handle it, just like Justin said. He did as he was told. He moved the merchandise out to the floor, and was as quiet as he could be. Because, meanwhile, he kept thinking of Cassie and what he and Cassie might be doing. It might not be intimate to some, but it did give him a good feeling.
Of course, those days of just watching Wagon Train were over, and maybe she was going on the Internet too much. She did love YouTube and all those tutorials. Except, she wasn't very good at putting makeup on. Especially, being wheelchair bound. Although he often thought she could, but she didn't want to. So that's where he came in, and the close proximity began.
She said it was like drawing a face. Of course, he did all of this with care. Trying his best to make it the way she said it should be. He hated to tell her she didn't really need makeup. But he didn't want to make a fuss. He liked being with Casssie. He listened to her chatter and knew she'd test him on it so he paid close attention.
However, this one person at work gave him trouble every time he saw her, and she always seemed to come in. She was just a customer. He hoped she didn't start working there.
Most times, he acted as if he didn't hear her. He learned that was the best way to get on with things, because he was moving merchandise to the floor, but she would follow him around with those puppy dog eyes of hers. After all his talks with Justin, he knew Justin would want him to pay no mind to her.
"Maybe you should ask someone else to help you," he managed to say to her.
"But I don't want anybody else," she smiled brightly at him as if she knew how to spark his interest.
"Really, I don't know where everything is around here," he just followed instructions from the back. Honestly, that was where he wanted to be, behind the scenes. Even with Cassie, it felt like it was behind the scenes helping her with make-up.
Still, Cassie was always on his mind, not the girl who was so pushy and often made him fear the day. But it wasn't like he could ask anyone what to do. Except to point and say, "They can help you up front."
It seems like he's doing the best he can on his new jobs, while thoughts are running through his head.
ReplyDeleteJobs can sometimes be a relief from life. At least at a job, someone tells you what to do and it's more clear cut.
Life in general, especially relationships, can be a lot more complicated.
I wonder if that is not what he's feeling while his thoughts are running to Cassie.
Very interesting story 😊
ReplyDeleteSome silences are understandable
ReplyDeleteLook out, that gal is interested in you, Randy.
ReplyDeletePoor guy
ReplyDeleteSometimes the silence is very difficult :)
ReplyDeleteIt makes Randy likeable that he thinks about Cassie so much. He is a rather quiet person, which is nice.
ReplyDeleteAww I wonder who this mystery shopper is who has taken a shine to Randy. Hmm... and his thoughts are full of cassie.
ReplyDeleteNice set.
