"Are you guys hungry?" Jade asked as soon as she heard how Mona and Rico got locked out of their apartment. All they had were sloppy joes. It wasn't long until they got situated around the table. Of course, Ari bandaged up Rico's toe before he could even say no.
"We make too much of this anyway," Ari shrugged about the matter.
Jade noticed Mona was being more silent than usual. She suspected she and Rico had words, but maybe not a fight. She knew Mona could easily get mad at Rico. Of course, he was acting his normal self as if nothing was going on.
Everyone ate, and even the carrot salad was devoured. Jade was wondering if she'd have to get rid of the leftover salad until Rico and Mona arrived.
Soon enough, the guys went to the living room to discuss guy stuff while Jade cleaned up. Mona helped.
"How do you do it?" She looked as if she hadn't a clue about daily living.
"Trial and error, usually." Jade shrugged as she filled the dishwasher. "We've gotten better. I know there are certain things Ari likes to do and well, it's a team effort. For the most part, we work together. We plan week night menu. You know, see where some night we can use leftovers from the night before. We just try to have the basics on hand, like chili that becomes spaghetti the next night. Things like that."
Mona looked overwhelmed or maybe just sad.
"Hey, one little spat isn't the end of the world," Jade smiled back and got some chamomile tea ready for her.
"I don't know what I was thinking," she shook her head as if she was about to cry and Jade suspected it had nothing to do with the key.
"Well, stop thinking and live in the present. There is always a new day tomorrow." Jade told her as she took a sip of hot tea.
"Found it!" They heard Ari say. He did have the extra key to the apartment that Mona gave him when she first moved in. It was at the bottom of us underwear drawer.
