"Are you sure you're ready to be a dad?" Rico's question elicited only a deadpan look from Gabe, followed by a laugh.
"Are you sure you're ready to be a husband?" Gabe smirked.
Rico rolled his eyes at that as they finally looked at the menu at their favorite place to meet up, which was not far from the sports bar they had meant to go to a long time ago, just to find out it was too loud to even talk there. And they had never won at Keno. That was the only time they'd ever gone gambling. And they would never go back.
They ordered their usual at the old diner, a cheeseburger and onion rings.
"I guess Mona doesn't think she'll pass that test." Rico got serious then.
"Test?"
"You know, to be a real estate agent."
"Oh." Gabe nodded as if he'd forgot about that. "Well, you better not make her forget to study, you know."
"She's studying." He winced as if he wasn't the problem.
"Sammie's getting a little nervous, you know," Gabe mentioned the due date was anytime now. He'd gone to her to the hospital for a review of the place where she'd have the baby. They got all the paperwork done. "It looks like a big hotel suite with a lot of machines, in case something happens."
Rico didn't want to think about that. "She's doing OK, isn't she?"
"Well, it's hard for her get comfortable at night. She eats smaller meals now." He shrugged.
Rico knew he was ready to be dad, but like Gabe had mentioned, he needed to be a husband first. Yet, Mona didn't want to talk about that, these days.
They both sound like they are READY!!
ReplyDeleteGabe countered Rico well, bravo! :D
