maybe it's not the right reason

Megan wasn't sure why she mentioned the Amazon gift card balance, but it was a certain joy she knew she should share, but hadn't. She didn't really know how it came about, but usually, there was always enough for her to get a few things so she wouldn't have to go out. She'd actually let it build. Although, it was just a small fortune. She hadn't made any huge purchase.

"How can that be, that you don't know?" Cori sounded as if he didn't truly believe her.

She shrugged not sure she could explain it. Oddly, she thought of one person. Someone she went to school with.

"But Nana said he was dead," Megan told him.

"What? An old friend from high school?" Cori was in the middle of eating his toast when she said it.

"It's not like I always believed her," Megan found herself almost in a dream thinking of her moments with Nana. She felt a little sad, but not completely. She liked confiding in Cori. Perhaps, he would confide in her, too.

Cori stared at her as if was waiting for more.

"I mean, eventually, I guess she was wise," Megan told him her grandparents raised her. "Sometimes, she'd tell the truth if we drank margaritas. We usually did this when Pop was out playing cards with his buddies." Megan smiled thinking of her and those tasty yet salty drinks that slipped up and lingered long after.

"That's it!" She smiled brightly as if she had an idea. "Let's make margaritas tonight, and get to the bottom of this."

"Why?" Cori didn't look as if he liked the idea.

"You, and those noises," she winced. "What's keeping you from wanting to sleep in your room?"

"Oh." But he remained even lipped as if he didn't find it a mystery. He shook his head, no. He promised her it would do no good.

"So, you think I would just have my way with you and you..you wouldn't regret it?" She wanted to know.

Cori winced as if the whole conversation was making him uncomfortable.

She laughed and pressed her fist into his shoulder.

"You're much too young to drink," she knew it would never happen, but she couldn't remember the last time she'd had a margarita. She nodded then, remembering her last conversation with her grandmother.
