When doves fly

Honestly, Hope was a little upset with Tori and Dylan. Why hadn't they told anyone about getting married?

Megan and Caitlin were over to see baby Jewel. It wasn't often the three of them could get together. Even when they lived together they rarely got together.

"Oh, don't be too hard on her," Megan said as she snacked on the cheap shortbread from the Dollar Store and hot lemoned tea. "It's amazing they got it done. I thought they wouldn't. You know, I'm happy for them."

"Yeah, I know, but like Hope said, it would have been nice to celebrate a wedding," Caitlin shrugged as she dipped a cookie into her tea.

"It's just weird, how..how can you be married..you know..alone..out in the woods?"

"People do it all the time," Megan told her. "That's the way the pioneers did it and even people on the other side of the world. Besides, they have a marriage certificate. What does it matter as long as in their hearts they know it's true."

Hope only smiled. Of course, she doubted she and Kyle would have a pow-wow. She guessed no one got married at those anyway, but still something with heritage would be nice. Perhaps a fusion of cultures, no less.

"Have you heard from Frankie lately?" Hope thought it best to switch gears.

"I guess he's fine," Megan shrugged. "His roommate is working. Did Kyle meet her?"

"Um, no," Hope remembered her name was Pixie. "But I guess Roman likes her."

"Roman?" Caitlin winced. "Isn't he with LaLa?"

"Well, people always have work husband and wives," Megan looked at Caitlin. "Hasn't that ever happened to you?"

"Never." Caitlin looked at Megan as if she was making things up.

"I never felt that way about Frankie," Hope confessed. "he was always more like a big brother to me when we worked together."

Jewel let out a cry about then and Hope went to feed her.

Caitlin looked at Megan as if she was bringing up too many weird things. "Is there something I should know about you?" Caitlin asked Megan.

"Oh, I've been around a lot of people teaching," she chuckled. "I've met all types. It's just when you click with certain people it does make your job easier. Cause there isn't that much fun teaching."

"Then..then why don't you quit?" Caitlin wanted to know.

"Nothing out there is like a piece of cake, you know. I do love the kids. I love watching them learn."

"The way you talk, sometimes, I just can't see you and Cori ever being together." Caitlin bit into another cookie.

"And yet we are." Megan's smile was smart as she cradled her cup of tea.

Hope smiled back. She sensed that feeling too. How it came about with her and Kyle.

  5. Great descriptions. I can almost imagine I'm there with them eating shortbread, drinking lemon tea and talking about everything. Expect, I never tried shortbread. Nice to see Megan and Caitlin talking together and with Hope.

  6. Terrific triple-pronged ending!

Caitlin's so dead set on being cynical, but Megan and even Hope, in her way, have an answer for everything. And yet maybe that's why I like Caitlin so much; she always seems like she's struggling.

When you commented about the library patron who checked out the book about how to make a knife, I was like, oh no. But then I was glad to see that he turned out to be a furniture maker. But then you said it might be best not to see his furniture after all, and I thought, hmm, maybe there's something up with this guy after all. The quirkily elegant push and pull of it all reminded me of the way you write your stores. :)

  7. Oh how romantic there is hardly anything as enchanting as a wedding in the woods. 😍
I really enjoyed the dynamics between Caitlin and Megan . In reality, this is actually pretty accurate, because no friend is perfect and no relationship either.
