Sammie felt she was between jobs maybe, or just a tight spot. She made enough noodles and chicken for two more people. After all, they would show up at the last minute.
"Are you really expecting Vada and Justin?" Gabe practically fretted. Sammie shrugged back.
"What am I supposed to do?" Sammie never asked anything from Vada who supposedly had lots of money, but she was always with her Justo these days and well, dinner was always free at Sammie and Gabe's, evidently.
"I have to say something," Gabe was straight-lipped as he reached for his phone for backup. "I'm going to ask Ari if..if he can tell Justin how we feel if..if..I just can't get through to both of them."
"Oh," Sammie did look a little tired. Of course, it would be nice just to enjoy their little space together, not having it as some sort of bed and breakfast which was actually dining and supper. "I guess it's my fault."
She said she liked Vada, but she thought she'd changed.
"No, she hasn't." Gabe swelled a frown. "She's used you from the get-go. The girl doesn't know how to have real friends. Yeah, she might have a legion of guys around but she doesn't know how to be a real friend."
Sammie stirred the one-pot meal a little more as she sighed. "I never expected she'd like me," Sammie said. "I know I'm not a threat." She didn't even go to any of those social gatherings. It was like she was in the wings, making sure someone's makeup and hair was perfected. She even seamed up Vada's wardrobe on occasion. It was a little tiring.
"I want you to stop," Gabe looked at her.
"Stop?" Now Sammie's eyes grew intense. But Vada was her bestie. Wasn't she?
About then there was a knock on the door. It was their usual guests. They arrived with smiles.
"Oh, I'm sorry, we're very busy," Gabe announced. "Sammie has come down with something. Can't invite you in."
"What?" Vada was practically slumming in her graphic tee and sweatpants.
Sammie looked over her shoulder, realizing how these two were very comfortable with them, but before she knew it, Gabe shut the door in their faces. He even put the chain lock on the door.
"You should have been honest," Sammie told Gabe.
"Well, I'll think of something. But it's good for now."
Gabe went to get their bowls out and filled them with the creamy chicken with noodles, dotted with peas and carrots.
Sammie set out the cucumber and tomato salad from the fridge. At least now they would have leftovers for tomorrow.
Light writing, so great to read

Well, he did it. Gabe slammed the door in the face of the couple who used Sammie: Vada and Justin. They were not left without food, however. The food was brought out to them.

Good for Gabe! That's terrible the way Vada was mooching off Sammie, especially when Sammie's on a budget and Vada's not. Sammie's lucky to have a guy who sticks up for her. 🥕🥒🍗💖🥕🥒🍗💖
