where there's a will

"What was that about?" Justin looked at Vada as if she was at fault. Not him.

"I guess she's sick." Vada nodded as she turned back to his place. "Maybe..maybe we could get a burger."

"A burger?"

She looked at her Doordash account then. They could have some fast food delivered, but there would be a fee for that. "On second thought, let's just go out."

It was almost nightfall. The days hadn't gotten that much longer yet. There was a McDonald's nearby. It had been ages since she'd been to one. Of course, Justin followed along as if he might be her wayward toddler.

It was only a short time until they were there and the menu didn't exist. Everything was done at the kiosk now.

"Oh, I can take your order," said the old lady behind the counter.

"But..." Vada felt so awkward. This was not her lifestyle. It felt as if things weren't like they used to be, but she did have Justin and of course, he was the most handsome thing here, even if there was no one but the old woman to show him off to. "All right, we'll just have two-quarter pounders with cheese."

The woman asked if that was a meal.

"Sure." Honestly, Vada didn't mean to be so pessimistic. They were the only ones there. Soon enough they had their meals in the dining room. Vada had sent Justin to get her a diet drink at the fountain drink station. Of course, he brought back a real coke.

She wanted to be bitter about it, but now as she thought about the taste of the over-priced burger that didn't even have a bit of salad in it, it was the best thing about the meal.

"I'm glad I didn't use doordash," Vada then mumbled as she bit into a warm fry.

"What?"

Oh, you would be this way, Vada thought then but she said nothing. Really, she found him rather sensitive. It was not all as perfect as it was with Sammie and Gabe. Of course, Sammie cooked for Gabe. Actually, he cooked for her too. They did everything together. It was like a dance Vada had never been accustomed to. She'd take more notice next time. If there was one.

She looked up at Justin who didn't even eat a burger like most guys. She slightly sighed. Oh, this was going to be work, whipping this one into shape. How could this have happened?

He smiled at her with that goofy grin of his. She smiled back as if he really did have a way of making her stick around, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

    1. Believe me, my last meal at McDonald's what not all that good. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. I hate that rotating menu of there, but I really needed it that time.

  7. So Vada and Justin made it a Mickey D's night! I must say, Vada seems very entitled. But at least she seems to be getting that she's been taking Sammie for granted. And if I know you, then you'll be showing us a more sympathetic side of Vada sooner rather than later!
