"I think it'll be weird," Cleo sighed about the matter. She didn't know she could go anywhere with Gregory. What was wrong with Ali and Diago? Asking them to go a road trip with them.
"Come on, it can't be that bad," Gregory was up for it. Yes, staying in had felt like a prison after a while. So Cleo moved in with Gregory. It wasn't like she had any other choices. Maybe they were meant to be. After all, they came back for the sex and now it was all they had.
Naturally, there were other things. Gregory made cookies from his tabletop doughnut maker. It was all vegan. Maybe even a business. He was good with packaging, and the noodle place, close by was always asking for them and well, he supplied.
"You might be busy," she reminded him about the matter. Could he get fined or arrested for not having a permit?
"I'll be busy when I want to be," He shrugged about the matter.
Thank God, no one had gotten sick. Cleo hoped it never came to that. Of course, Gregory wasn't going to eat just anything gluten-free. They were almond flour-based cookies in lemon, vanilla, and monster cookie donuts. It looked legit (when would he have time for a road trip?).
Even someone from the farmer's market wanted him to open a table, but it wasn't possible. Honestly, he did not look like a cookie maker instead a grunge cookie monster.
Maybe he was a gold mine, but Cleo found that hard to believe. And yet, she was with him.
"Look, Ali's trans, right?" Gregory had a way of making it all seem complete.
"I don't think her boy, even knows," Cleo was beginning to wonder. "He doesn't treat her-"
"See, isn't that the way it should be?" Gregory insisted that Cleo was just looking to be a typecast. "She wants to be your friend."
"We're nothing alike," Cleo sighed about it. "Ali has it way too easy." She wanted to hate Ali. Why did they have to be friends?
"See, you are the one with the problem, not Ali. She wants to be your friend. You have to be thankful for that. It's not like you are going out of your way to be pretty, you know."
Naturally, it left Cleo seething. Why on earth was she with Gregory? Definitely, he was old school. She hated that about him, yet she needed him. And he did make a damn good donut cookie.

Why doesn't she want to be friends with Ali? Maybe she's just an introvert. Gregory might be just encouraging her to make friends with Ali, but his wording is sure a bit odd. Every boy needs to be super charming, but still...One can see how it could make her resentful, saying she doesn't try to be pretty. Should one try? And does making great cookies really matter that might? Maybe it does. Maybe the small things add up. Anyway, they're an interesting couple.
ReplyDeleteThey might be more typical than we think. Oh, he's a guy and Cleo isn't sure if she can pull off being a trans woman. Yet, I feel Cleo envies Ali who is a trans woman with a much more romantic significant other. Yet, Gregory might sound hurtful, his words. "You're not even trying to be pretty." And as you said Cleo is an introvert. If "she" would let herself be in a supportive group it would probably make all the difference. And I feel Cleo is in SELF mode. Of course, Gregory will do as he pleases..take it or leave it. I might be totally wrong in my theory or might be hitting on issues that this trending topic doesn't want to talk about. It can be fragile. But it is a journey and journeys take choices, sacrifice, good insurance and always money.
