It's like you're always stuck in second gear

 

After listening to Gabe going on about Rico's new happiness with starting at the University, Sammy wasn't sure Rico was as grown up as she thought he was. She guessed it didn't matter. Although, it would take some getting used to, when he did bring someone around. She knew he would because that's the way Rico worked, or his mind anyway. She knew he would be looking for her and Gabe's approval of who ever he dated.

"But he says he's not going to date anyone," Gabe shrugged. They were both in their sleep pants and tanks trying to get dinner prepared. 

She'd gone to the art studio on campus when it was quiet to work on a sculpture. Sammy was beginning to think it wasn't her forte, but she'd just started the semester too. And for the first time in a long time, she would have to make time to go to the studio to work on her art projects. Most she'd done were at home. It was taking some getting used too.

"Are you sure you're OK?" Gabe then said while he was chopping onion and veg for the stirfry. He promised he could take care of it. She didn't have to help.

"No, I'm fine." After all, she'd let him do the cooking, but she'd clean up after him. It would be less messy afterward.

Actually, she was thinking about her art teacher. He was new too. Of course, when she met him, she thought of Vada immediately. Still, she didn't know him that well, but he was young and new in town.

Why did she feel the need to introduce him to Vada? 

"Sammy? What's up?" Gabe wanted to know.

"I know it's useless to think maybe..maybe Vada would like the new art teacher."

Sammy went on to wipe down the counter as Gabe went to put the veg in with the sizzling sliced chicken breast.

"Don't even think it," Gabe gave her a serious look over his shoulder.

"But..but she is my friend," Sammy pouted.

"Oh, really?" Gabe was even lipped. "What has she ever done for you?"

Sammy sighed. He was right, but she still wanted to be a good friend.
